The science behind the PWO meal?

edit - thanks baseline. Looks like most people disagree with the 5 star rated sticky thread about how you need to load up on 80 grams of sugar after a workout.

I'm just wondering why exactly there would be a difference between 1) having a meal an hour after a workout as opposed to 15 minutes and 2) having protein + sugar as opposed to just protein.

It seems like what your body needs, it's going to get. Why would it just give you a window of opportunity to give it what it needs?

I'd rather hear someone say what they know rather than say what they heard some random person say

suposidly there is a window that is open for around 30-45mins where your body / muscles can absorbe amino acids / glucose at an elevated rate, resulting in greater potential for recovery / growth. If you take a meal in after an hour you will suposidly miss this window... (Thats the best way I can explain it, anyone else know the science??)

and 2) having protein + sugar as opposed to just protein.

Simple Carbs / sugars will spike insulin levels in response to elevated blood sugar levels, thus the bodys way of bringing blood sugar levels down. When insulin is released it forces the sugars / glucose into the bodys stores ( hopefully your muscles), basically to get it out of the blood and bring blood sugar levels back down and hopefully help to replenish glycogen stores quicker. (suposidly)

I'd rather hear someone say what they know rather than say what they heard some random person say

everyone has a different opinion, some say fast protein simple carbs, some say fast protein slow carbs
The whole Simple / Complex carbs PWO argument is bi on this forum.

Somone may be able to point you towards the big thread where C BINO and some others are dscussing this issue.
