Questions on insulin

I really would like to take things to the next level by incorporating insulin into my next cycle. However, from every thing I’ve ever heard I should stay away from it. But in light of gearheads knowledge and the recent increase of its use by members of this forum I have given it some serious thought. I know some of the risks and have a loose understanding of its use but have a couple questions...

- Is there a risk I could become diabetic by using insulin?

-what type of insulin and what protocol would yield the best results with minimal risk and be the best option for a beginner?

- Are the gains achieved on insulin retainable after insulin use is stopped?

-what type of insulin and what protocol would yield the best results with minimal risk and be the best option for a beginner? Not my wheelhouse, defer to more experienced.

- Are the gains achieved on insulin retainable after insulin use is stopped? Lots of variables here, but anecdotally I have seen people retain their gains.

--- the idea that bodybuilders taking insulin will lead to diabetes is an old 'over exaggeration' sort of speak. insulin is not like exogenous testosterone that shuts down the HPTA and thus risks your ability to naturally produce test (this is what guys thought back in the day about insulin). when taking insulin your pancreas still produces insulin on its own no problem.

IN Fact we are finding just the opposite is true (as more research has been done). that supplementing with insulin, especially for bodybuilders who consume plenty of food and supplement with things like HGH, can help PREVENT diabetes. its gotten to the point that anti-aginig clinics are now administering insulin (on top of AAS, HGH etc) because of its ability to prevent the onset of diabetes , limit aging, and promote health.
when done properly, insulin use in bodybuilding can enhance your health and prevent the onset of diabetes.

--- I've laid out various insulin protocols throughout these forums and helped a lot of guys privately (so theres LOTS of different options and ways of doing it) . but the simplest and easiest one to get started for a beginner is a Novalin-R protocol. you can pick it up over the counter (no prescription needed) at your local way-mart. the exact use of it will depend on your goals , but I'll lay out the basics in a following post or point you to a thread where I've went over this with other guys.


--- Expect to put on about 10 pounds with your first insulin run (if stacked properly with your AAS). This 10 pounds is a 'basis' that can stay with you indefinitely if your training and nutrition are spot on. over time you will acclimate to this 10 pounds of gain and it will be your new set point, and then you can keep building from there.. yes there is a lot of glycogen loading and water that come with insulin use, but this is what muscle is (70%) anyways. we need this increase to help us grow over time.

sure insulin use if done without respect can be dangerous.. but when done properly it is one of the most anabolic, yet most side effect free compounds a guy can take.
your not going to hear about limp dick, acne, aggression, lack of sleep, blood pressure, trouble breathing, thick blood, etc. etc.. with insulin use. in fact you should not feel a single negative side effect if using it properly (only positives like , accelerated recovery, good pumps, muscle fullness, strength and weight gain)

NOTE: I'm going to add this to the "insulin use may cause diabetes" .. I will say that abusing things to the extreme can have negative consequences. . we all know that someone can get type 2 diabetes by having an unhealthy lifestyle and diet choices that lead to insulin resistance or pancreatic beta cell burn out.
So too can a bodybuilder using insulin . taking insulin is not a reason to gorge yourself with sugar. you need to keep close watch on your diet and food choices. you need to monitor your blood sugars often.

heres example of what I'm saying--
if your grandma gave herself diabetes from eating 1000 grams of carbs a day from mcdonalds and gorging herself on sugar (creating a huge insulin load over the years) ... keep in mind you can end up the same way by using so much insulin that you have to gorge yourself like that in order to not go hypo

My main concern is giving myself diabetes. I understand if done carelessly or with little research much worse things can happen... but I’m concerned with the things I can’t control, like doing everything right but ending up with diabetes.

type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle disease that is fairly predictable. you usually don't just wake up with it one day..

so this is what I would do. get a blood glucose meter (10$ at Walmart) and start monitoring your waking fasted blood sugar a few times a week and track your average. lets say its 80 (which is real good). then you start using insulin for bodybuilding. keep tracking and charting that fasted blood sugar. IF over time your getting into the upper 90s or breaking 100, then its time to come off the insulin and possibly time to implement some low carb dieting and re-set your insulin sensitivity and get back to the 80s. its that easy.

your tracking and preventing things as best you can. again diabetes wouldn't just happen over night (unless genetic type 1, which you aren't). you would see things coming and happening over time. your fasted blood sugar could eventually get into the 130+ range and you then have problems (ie , diabetic) . so track it and and be proactive so you never get there.

Thanks man... I will get a meter and start checking to get a base line. How is insulin best used? For example, if I were to start with Novalin-R, I’m assuming I inject that preworkout? What would I do on non training days? Inject and just implement the same carb protocol I would if I was training? Or is having off days actually recommended?

start by using it pre workout with intra workout nutrition.
so 5iu of insulin to start about 20mins before you begin your workout..
then when you workout sip on a drink that you make that consists of 50g of carbs (carbolize or Karbolyn powder works) 10g EAAs, 5g creatine. then have a post workout meal of protein and carbs.

and thats it to start.. then you move on from there by-

adding another 5iu of insulin AFTER your workout..
take in a post workout shake with 30g of whey isolate, and another 50g of carbs.
make sure about 2 hours later to have a solid meal with protein and carbs.

then after that you start slowing bumping up your dosages. . so your preworkout slin might bump up to 8iu and your post workout to 10iu.
IF you go hypo then your taking too much slin or not enough carbs.


another option that I personally do (on top of the above) . is first thing in the morning when I wake up I take in 5iu of insulin with some whey (and carbs if needed). this will help suppress cortisol levels and start your day off in an anti-catabolic state.
you can do this on workout days and non workout days.

Alright, awesome. So to start do you recommend using it on days you are not training? I train about 5-6 days a week so I would be using it almost everyday even if it was only on days I train lol

for people who run elevated blood sugars (elevated blood sugar is a direct cause of aging) . heck I've had anti aging clinics also prescribe me HGH, Primobolan and deca .

yeah just choose to start with either the pre workout or post workout for right now and do it that way only.. then eventually move towards doing both. don't bother with it on your days off for right now (eventually you may want to when your needing to enhance your recovery even more)

Ok great... I got my meter and all that stuff today... will start checking fasted in the morning to get a baseline.

Great info guys, I was wondering about this subject my self, I've done sling long time ago, but it had a terrible rep for being dengerous, this cleans up a lot of questions for me, how's novalin differ from Humulin?

The only slin I would use is humalog, and you can pretty much always find someone wanting to sell their humalog on craigslist. If you're a beginner, start with 5 IU's immediately after workout and then wait 5 minutes and chug at least 50 grams of dextrose and however much whey you normally use. And make sure your PPWO is ONLY carbs and protein. If you consume any fat on insulin, you will store it.

I kept getting fat with insulin, and the only way I would touch it again is with a legit HGH stack.

Don't worry about getting diabetic.

Funnily enough, I came across that page a couple of years ago when I was first researching PCOS. I read that and was like, I have ALL those symptoms - Id never even heard of insulin resistence before then or knew of the link with PCOS Thats a really good page for research.

It depends on the diabetes type. People with type 1 diabetes always need insulin. And people with type 2 diabetes usually go through oral medication treatment, though they may eventually need insulin if other treatments haven't been able to keep blood glucose levels within the desired range. My grandfather has type 2 diabetes and I buy trulicity online for him which fortunately works for him.
