Next 007 to be black woman
And undoubtedly also a dyslexic lesbian Muslim, just to touch as many minority bases as possible.
Lashana Lynch Will Play First Female 007 in New James Bond Movie
I don't have a problem with re-tooling the role of Bond. Ian Fleming even did it because in his novels Bond originally was English. Then along come the Cubby Broccoli films starring Sean Connery, who happens to have a conspicuous "Scotland Forever" tattoo on his right forearm. So in the first Bond sequel that Fleming wrote after the release of the film version of "Dr. No," he changed Bond to Scottish. You might remember that in the opening sequence of the film "You Only Live Twice," Bond is assassinated in a Murphy bed. In the novel YOLT, Fleming details Commander Bond's obituary as published in "The Times," which states his father was Scottish and his mother Swiss.
So it's not like the character doesn't have a history of yielding to commercial pressures.
But it should only be done for compelling reasons, no so "underrepresented" minorities can co-opt the fame white men brought to the role, because otherwise the character has no integrity. The change to Scotsman was logical because Connery owned the role. Wore it like a Savile Row tailored suit. This despite the fact that Fleming objected to the selection of Connery, but he got over that once the box office receipts started pouring in. So every film Bond from Roger Moore to Daniel Craig has remained Scottish (even when portrayed by an Aussie, an Irishman and a Welshman).
Otherwise, after they've got the dyslexic Muslim lesbian black woman thing out of their system, they should go for a paraplegic Indian Sikh woman who has "transitioned" to a man so "he" can have homo sex with other homosexual men (sorry, I don't know the "approved" pronoun for that one). And has Tourettes syndrome just for good measure. I can't wait to see the machinegun and rocket launcher-equipped wheelchair Q comes up with for he/she/it.

Doesn't matter to me
It bothers me when they try to change a character with an iconic look.
In this case, to my understanding, it's not supposed to be 007, but 025, a new character all together is going to take the lead.

I feel like Henry Cavil (the dude who played Superman) would have been perfect for this role, but whatever.

I like Elba's work but I've mentioned elsewhere in the forum, he has an accent problem. If he has one other than Cockney, I've never heard it. Even when he was on a US TV series ('The Big C,' as Laura Linney's adulterous love interest). As a product of Eton, Bond needs a posh accent. Sean Bean has a similar problem. He's so Yorkshire he can't do any accent but Yorkshire. Which probably is why 90% of the characters in GOT spoke like Yorkshiremen (and wasn't Ian McShane's Tyke absolutely atrocious?) in a world where Yorkshire doesn't exist. Plus Idris is a bit long in the tooth to be looking to build another Bond franchise on him. I like Aidan Turner, Captain Ross Poldark from the BBC series, "Poldark." He's handsome, swavy and deboner, has an accent that doesn't sound like a street urchin, and he's 10 years younger than Elba.
I hate for Bond to be politicized because films in general are (and should remain) about escapism. If you want to watch something to make you feel even more dreary and depressed, you should just stay home and turn on CNN. And Bond always was about the heroic cocksman fantasy. He does dashing things and has beautiful women lining up for their turn to polish his knob. Women (especially attractive ones) don't exactly face the same challenges when attempting a sexual conquest so the fact Mizz Bond might have throngs of men eager to stick their magic wand in her doesn't exactly carry the same connotation.

The only people turning Bond into politics are the people talking about it. No one else gives a crap. If a movie franchise thinks they will reach a greater audience by using a specific type of character that is likely what they will do as they will generate more revenue. Anything else is made up in people's mind, in my opinion.
