I generally like to keep it between 8-12. Anything 6 and below doesnt seem to do much for me....
What about you guys?

Sometimes you have to lift heavy which means shocking your muscle with weights that you can onl;y do a few reps with, there is no set rule to the amount rep you do a set, by the way this really isnt it the right area of the forum
I keep all of mine in the 6-8 rep range. From what I've read this is the ideal range for building muscle. 10-12 is better for conditioning and cutting up. 4-6 is ideal for building strength.
I'll work out with a weight I can get 6 times but not 8. If I get more than 8 I go up; If I get less than 6 I go down. also try to increase the weight by at least 2-5% per workout.![]()

depends on what im doing. for deadlifts I usually stay around 6. Calf raises about 20. Everything else is usually between 8-10, but occasionally Ill do 6 sets of 5 on bench to mix it up.Originally Posted by brewski053

exactly, mixing it up is the key, change it up if you always do the same your body will get to used to it

OK I do the 12 to 15 reps, 4 sets thing... are you saying I should increase the weights to the point that I can only lift 6 to 8 times? I am willing to try anything that helps although I am not necessarily doing too badly so far on this cycle. I took 10 days off just prior to starting the cycle so after the rest down, its been a major shock to the muscles to restart and this has been one of the best starts to a cycle I've ever had.Originally Posted by Monkeytown
If you are after building mass then I would suggest lowering the reps...to at least 8-10. Also, as listed above you should change things up every 6-8 weeks to keep your muscles from getting used to the exercises. I usually change up the exercises I do and the reps. Right now I am doing 4 x 6-7. In a few weeks I will change to pyramid scheme 8, 6, 4, 2 Reps per exercise.Originally Posted by Ntpadude
