I doubt many people here still remember me. A few of you may have read some of my old posts?my beginner?s post was pinned for what felt like forever. According to my profile, I joined this forum back in 2001. Not long after, I became one of the original ?postwhores? of AR and even served as a MOD for a few years. Eventually, life threw me a curveball?an ugly divorce and an ex-wife who hacked my account. To protect the board, I stepped down.
After that, my focus shifted entirely to my kids. Like many of you know, this lifestyle is hard to maintain?time, money, and energy are limited, and all of mine went to them. It paid off though: both of my kids earned full-ride scholarships and had successful collegiate sports careers. Along the way, I was able to help a lot of other athletes I coached achieve their own dreams too. That was incredibly rewarding emotionally, but physically, I let myself go?ended up overweight and out of shape.
Fast forward to now: I?m 53 and back in the game. I?ve been training consistently for about a year, and honestly, I?m shocked at how powerful long-term muscle memory is. I expected a slow grind after all this time, but the results came back much faster than I thought. My diet isn?t as dialed in as it used to be?I used to obsess over micronutrition thanks to a great mentor i met here on this board back in the day?but for now, I?ve just been keeping it simple: tracking calories and protein. With some help from tirzepatide, it?s been enough to make real progress. At around 240 lbs, I?d guess my body fat is 18?20%. Upper abs are starting to show, but I still need to cut down to see the rest. I?ll get scanned soon for a real number.
Current routine: I?m lifting 4 days a week and doing cardio 5. Supplements are pretty basic?vitamins, creatine, pre-workout, tirzepatide (1mg), and AndroGel (80mg, though absorption isn?t what injectables used to give me). Eventually, I?ll probably switch back to Prop and Tren?an old favorite despite the hassle of ED injections, because nothing beats the pumps of prop.
At this stage in my life, my drive to train is as strong as ever. Seeing progress so quickly has been a huge motivator. My short-term goal is to cut down to sub-12% body fat, then focus on a lean-ish bulk. I?m not sure if I?ll ever compete again, but I won?t rule it out. Getting to sub-7% body fat at 30 was brutal?doing it in my 50s will be a whole different challenge. But I?m motivated, and for now, I?m just excited to be back in the game. Feels like home.
