Well, let's see if I can use some elementary deduction to figure out what a Yankee is.
Where do the Yankees play? New York
So, we must assume then, that a Yankee is one who lives in the north east at least, if not New York.

that is one sports team. it is also a widely-used term that means an american. new york is all a bunch of immigrants, therefore they aren't as "yankee" as say the WASPs in vermont or kentucky, so it doesn't make sense.

Eh, their results were inaccurate. It should be something like:

    55% Upper Midwestern
    25% Midwestern
    20% General American English
    0% Yankee
    0% Dixie

Southern accents scare me. I wish people would talk normally.

At least yours is midwestern and western...that practically makes us kin. It's those Yankees that sound funny to us.

While in Wyoming, some of the residents told me they go down south to Missourri. LMFAO! We call them folks Yankees, and they are calling that the south!
