would having approx. 10-15g of flax or extra virgin olive oil slow protein absorption from a shake to have a gradual release of protein through some of the night??

No...absorption would be slowed by minutes, not hours....why not eat food?

I would see no problem having a shake with flax...i and many others do this with great results.
A shake (or other form of lean protein) with Udo's/Flax is a great idea...
Orange shake w/ flax, ohhhh yea!

If you are focused on having protein throughout the night, i suggest getting some casein protein powder, that will do the trick.
to your question, yeah it would slow it down better than with protein alone, but will not take you through the whole night.
