It's actually Blu-ray (no 'e') because they couldn't put a trademark on the word blue. It's basically a proprietary format for data storage like DVD but can hold 50 gigabytes of data on a dual layered disc as opposed to the 9 give-or-take gigabytes that a dual layered DVD can hold.Call me dumb, but what is blueray?

The name blu ray derives from the blue-violet laser instead of a red laser. it has a shorter wavelength than a red laser which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it's possible to fit more data on the disc even though it's the same size as a CD/DVD.
The format has already been used widely in Japan for a few years, but North America is always behind....
Blu ray will be the next standard and WILL replace DVD's in my opinion.

Could you imagine a 25 gigabyte video game. Some of the best games are around 8gs. madden football is gonna look like real football soon. About time.

I beleive Sony owns the technology. They license it to other manufacturers though. Thaey odviously don't want another Beta-max.
