What would you do if you were a pro athlete? Let the other guys pass you by and risk losing your job or use gear and take a chance at being caught? They're just humans after all. I would rather see Congress worrying about some more important sh*t than this - like the exponentially growing national deficit or what the hell to do about health care long term. But I agree - he should have told the truth when testifying.

If it can be shown that Palmeiro's use of steroids occurred before his testimony, he could be prosecuted for perjury. If it can only be shown that the steroid use occurred after his testimony, he could not be prosecuted on that basis.

Great Point. For anyone who is criticizing these dudes...just ask yourself this: If putting a needle in your a$$, with the chance that you 'might' get caught meant the difference between making multi-millions in the Bigs or struggling on below poverty line pay in the minors, what would you do?

This isn't just losing your job, this is missing out on a career that can help sustain your family for generations.

At least the standards are becoming fairer. It used to be that minor leaguers were tested extensively while the big leaguers were basically allowed to do whatever they wanted to do. All I ask is that people are allowed to compete for positions on the same playing field...no pun intended.

Dude Canseco was mad cause all these guys were putting up Hall of Fame numbers and breaking records and then denying where these abilities came from. At the same time Canseco was getting blackballed from baseball 39 dingers short of 500 and is going to keep him out of the hall because of the same thing that others like Giambi, McGwire and Palmiero were being made into heros for. I would be pissed too.

Not true, they have no evidence to support the idea that he was on steroids/had taken steroids when he had made the statements to congress. He failed the test after those statements (I beleive... or that was one seriously long drug test?).

Peroid...They might try and counteract this in many ways, but its for sure steroid will always play a role in sports no matter how hard they try.

It will not anytime make it legal to use in sports..But eventually will be taken not so harshly.
