you need to check out this band called If Hope Dies. These guys just toured w/ Hatebreed, and would you believe they were my old classmates in highschool!!? Not just saying this b/ I know them, they serious rock!! Check out the song "Let Freedom Ring" by them, it's got some real crunch to it.

Yes...they only put out one album though...I need to try and find it...Ive only heard one song off of it...It was really awesome...rivaled any metal Ive ever heard...I wish they would go back to that...

chest you should get their old album I think it was called sounding the seventh tumpet or something like that. they sounds diffrent before they hit mainstream. but I give the guitarist props hes not too bad

cynic at that point was much more death/jazz. not as hard as they were in the beginning but infinitely better. by far the most technical death abnd ever.
if you want just extremely hard "nothing" by meshuggah is about as hard as it gets.

I actually play guitar in a metalcore-type band with a heavy emphasis on old-school Scandanavian Black Metal. Our bassist keeps a myspace spot - www.myspace.com/carnalhouse - it has two more accesible songs from our demo there and some up coming gig dates, check it out and see what you think.
Other than that you can't go past Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Nile and Cradle.
