12-14 Hours sleep a day TOO MUCH...?

I start a new job in just less than a week now so for the past 10 days i have been doing nothing bascially, just eating properly, training and sleeping...I have been taking around 12 to 14 hours sleep a day, usualy 10-12 hours a night and then 2 hours in the afternoon - my question is can too much sleep be bad for you or am i only helping my self and my cycle being able to do this...

I dont really see it as an issue otehr than it cutting down on the total amount of time you have to consume good whole food. Since I like to get in 7 meals a day when cycling I would fint that hard if I was only awake for 10 hours.

I agree. It's harder to eat enough meals spaced out properly with less time.

    Good point.
If i know i`m hoing to sleep long i take a huge protein shake (kasein, important, it releases into the body slower than whey), and make one so that if you wake up you can drink another one

But if you can it is worth it, i promise!!!
in good cycles, you have to wake up,eat and drink shakes, then sleep again!

But the best is to sleep egular, and throw in a good, long nap!

As long as you're feeling refreshed after you wake up, 12-14 hours is just fine. Sounds like you might have had a sleep deficit built up too. Some of the best growth I ever had naturally was during periods where I could basically take naps whenever I wanted to. Sleep is good.

I agree sleep is good, productive, restorative, etc. But 14 hrs (2 of which are intermittent) in 24 hour period, you're literally asleep more than you're awake and that's only appropriate for newborns.

Even a severe deficit would correct itself in a few of days. People who work months of delayed (backwards) rotating shifts (week of 3rd, week of 2nd, week of 1st) can restore circadian rhythms (the internal clock that regulates many aspects of metabolism, physiology and behavior, in humans and many other organisms) in as little as week and there's no more damaging deficit than they incur.

YES! There is something wrong with sleeping that much you should see a doctor!

I know people who have taken drugs to sleep like that while cycling.

But I recommend regular sleep, with good naps

I'm lucky to get 6 hours a night... real lucky... props to you for having a clear enough schedule to sleep like that! Wait to marriage/kids/job/commute/household upkeep and everything else comes into play

I wish I could enjoy that much
sleep once and a while. Im one
that only gets 6-8 hrs ED. If I
slept for 12,I would for sure have
issues keepin the meals in check.

Good luck w/ the new job needbigguns

gotta love not working and sleeping the day away. my body reacts to wake up betwwen 3 - 4hrs after falling a sleep . for some reason i think my bodys used to its midnight protein/ flax shake. ive done this everynight without fail for about 6 months now. and if i sleep for 12 hrs ill wake up at the 3-4 hr mark and again 3-4 hrs later . works great for me except when i wake up half hr short from 3 hrs i have to stay awake for a bit to take my next protein shake./

you lucky bastard! i can rarely sleep more then 7 hours, my body just won't let me, once i've opened my eyes i'm wide awake and have to do something. what i wouldn't give to be able to sleep in.

longer you are in a deep sleep the more you will release your own natty GH. I think its released somewhere from 3-4 times a nite if you have agood sleep. I'll try to find the study on it.
