Today I had my follow up appointment with my Doctor since my pectoral surgery. He said everythings looking good as planned. He did yell at me though because I havent worn my sling the last few days. I told him I would start.
I also told him I was worried I may have retorn it and he said I was worrying too much. He said that the suitures he used are strong as hell and when I asked when they would dissolve, he said they are in there permanent. Is that a good thing?
He said in 2 weeks I could start doing assisted/active full ROM stretching with my therapist and could even start doing rotator cuff strengthening at that time. He said I will do that for 6 weeks and than come August I could start lifting again but start VERY VERY lightly.
He said September, I could return to doing security work. I told him my concern that I will retair it if I restrain someone or break up a fight, he said that by the time Sept. rolls around, it should be strong enough where that shouldn't be a concern because the muscle/tendon won't be that easy to retair at that time.
The only limitation that he put on me was that when I start lifting again, he doesn't recommend I do flat bench anymore, only dumbells. And he said I shouldn't do that heavy ever again, he said I should do 12-15 reps with that particular lift. I told him I would start at that rep scheme, but within a year I would slowly like to build up to the 10,8,6 (increasing weight each set) rep scheme. He responded with "well you can try, but the heavier you go the easier it is to retair it".
Lastly he said, in a few months I can go back to hitting the heavy bag. He said my hand speed and punching power will not be affected by this injury. I explained to him that I was worried that once I went back to boxing training I would retair this, and he said if I do all my PT and weightlifting correctly, and I stretch and warm up before I workout, the pectoral shouldn't retair due to
hitting the heavy bag, punch mits, etc.
So all in all good news. 8 more weeks of PT and than come Aug. I'm back to hitting the iron (starting with 5 lbs dumbells)
