I ruptured my right pectoral muscle/tendon March 21, 2006 doing flat barbell bench press. 7 weeks later on May 9, 2006 I had surgery. I started PT right after and I have it for 7 more weeks before I can start lifting again. I'm 26 years old 6' 230.
My question is, should my diet be any different seeing that I am on the shelf at the moment? I was thinking of upping the protein to help heal the muscle/tendon but than I was thinking if I do that I'm gonna put alot of fat on.
The supps I'm taking are:
1) 1 multi vitamin a day (at breakfast time)
2) 1 500 mg vitamin c cap a day (at breakfast time)
3) 1 scoop of whey protein mixed with 1 teaspoon of glutamine peptides and 1 cup of egg beaters (at breakfast time) along with my oatmeal
4) 2 scoops of Micellean (a slow acting protein) with 1 teaspoon of glutamine peptides and 1 tbsp of flax oil at bed time
5) 800 mg of motrin with food 3 times a day (breakfast, dinner, and at bedtime)
I've also been drinking alot of water, getting plenty of sleep, and eating alot of good protein, healthy carbs, and EFA's.
And SwoleCat, you have had surgeries and know what you're talking about. So I have another question, but it isn't diet related:
My doctor only reattched 80% of the muscle/tendon. He said the other 20% was too scarred to do anything with. He said not to worry though, all you need is 50% reattached for a successful repair to get most if not all of your strength back.
My question to you is, is my doctor lying and just telling me what I want to hear? I asked alot of the guys on the board this and they seem to think that 20% is no big deal and I should be back to normal. What minimal % do you need reattached for a successful pec major tendon repair?
