    Injured, Can't Workout..How Can I Maintain Mass/Strength

Hey guys. I had a ganglion cyst aspirated today from my wrist and the doctor informed me that I can't workout for a few weeks if I don't want it to come back. (A ganglion cyst occurs when there is a ligament tear and the ligament herniates causing fluid to enter the area. It's harmless but it was causing some pain during my workouts so I had it aspirated.) My question is, what can I do to help maintain my mass (and strength, but mostly mass) during these next few weeks while I am unable to work out? Thanks bros.

Thx doc. Should I work my legs more than once this week? Can I do squats since they involve my arms and wrist?

yes you can do legs twice a wk, or if you really get crazy, you can do 3 times a wk(yes it can be done, read my post on the 3x3 or german block training, it involved deadlfting and squating 3 times a wk for an 8 wk period) as far as squats go, i owuld use wrist wraps and see how the weights would feel, if there is any pain,i would top and just stick with motions that dont use arms(leg press, curl, ext, hack squats, sled work, sprints, maybe jump wrope, calf work.i would stay away from the deadlift and cleans, but you may be able to squat.

I took the ace bandage off today and the doctor didn't even get all of the cystic fluid aspirated. My cyst is still there, it's probably less than half of what it was, but it's still very much there. I guess either I'll have to ignore it or get surgery at this point, in which case I probably wouldn't be able to workout for a month or more.

I dont know how long you have been lifting for, but if you have been for quite some time now id consider going on an all out break. Dont care for a few weeks, it will be like one big mental vacation. Come back in 2 weeks psyched, amped and ready to come back stronger than ever. But hey just my opinion. During finals I did this and was so happy I did.

after 3 or 4 months of straight lifting a week off isnt a bad thing at all, but u said few weeks, id lift core exercises n legs for a week and 1/2 , then take a week and 1/2 off, if i took 3 weeks of id go crazy and be paranoid im losing all my gains

What do you mean by core exercises? I thought of core exercises as bench, deadlift, squat, and military press and those I can't perform for now.

    whack off

Also, practice using your legs as well

Happened to me too...so I went to a whack off workout.

for 2 months or so, whack off 4 times ED...each hand, each foot

end of 2 months, my bench went up 45 lbs, along with all upper body

    Squats went up 75 lbs...

I gained about 27lbs.....it works wonders

Keep trying, eventually you'll get it right and say something funny.
