Torn Pec, Will I Get Strong Again?

10 yrs ago i tore approx 1/2 my pec. it seperated from the top of my bicept and pulled into my chest.it was a muscle tear with no tendon attatched so surgery wasnt an option( i saw 2 docs got same opinion) i was devasted! ive heard of guys getting surgery and coming back, but what about my situation? the docs both said id never get my full strength back, any input would greatly be appreciated! ps im working out now with aas and seeing results im just very afraid of pushing too hard and tearing the rest of what i have left

Well bro all i can do and be honest ...Ive had a few close friends tear pecs and NO they never have comeback 100%...if you're talking about strength...benchpress is out of the question as far as stremgth...however deadlifts and squats no prob...if you're a BBER...who cares how much you can bench...

Push as hard as you can...however listen to your body...I trained afew weeks with Dorian yates and many people didnt know he tore a muscle on the side of his quad and he trained it hard...when he felt it get sore he layed of the till it felt better...do the same.

    good advice,

i have known people who have made comeback to powerlifting and get back to the same level or close, but remeber, they also where bench press shirts, which help them press and take the strain off of the pec

thanks doc sust, you know im the type where if you tell me i cant do something im just going to prove you wrong. when my doc told me id never come back i swore at that moment i would. my biggest concern is that its a little painful still (but getting better) i feel i cuold push harder but i so dont want to tear whats left. any ideas on a good rebuilding rutine for my pec (reps sets etc) thanks for your input!

i dont recall either doc giving it a grade or level, i would guess 1/3 of my pec or more. you can see two stretch marks where the muscle ran through the top of my arm pit. i would guess i have a little more than half of the muscle still intact. it is a process as i get pain in odd places (my shoulders, back etc..) when doing flat bench ,they odviously are compensating for the weakness in the area. anyway ill keep at it, it demoralising when i used to push 315 for 12 plus reps , now my last set is 155 for 6 . i m not a small guy by any means 5'11" 238 17% bf and i get weird looks when i pushing those weenie weights , i feel like screaming "im working with a torn pec here!" any way ill get over it thanks for all your input

Unhappy I tore my pec too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap... i was just about to put up a thread about the same exact tear as you have. Just a couple months ago i was amping up for a bench press comp and right in the middle of a set i felt the muscle tear and i emediately dropped the bar on myself. Luckily i had 3 spotters but they struggled and i choked for a second first!! The tear was from the top of the bicep/shoulder area and along the decline of my right pec. It didnt tear off the bone but tore about half way up in the middle. My right pec was double the size of my left and it wasnt swolen,, it was the part of the muscle that tore being bunched up in my pec. Same on the shoulder but not as bad. It didnt hurt as bad as it looked cause i had a black & blue on my chest/shoulder and all of my upper arm. People were grossed out in the gym it was so big and colorfull!!
now it healed but has left me with a severe weak spot right in the middle of the arm pit on the decline of my pec and the start of the delt. I can barely bench 185 without discomfort and pain! More like ur 155 is as high as i feel safe to go!
I have no idea what to do and i miss my benching to the point of depression!! Im a 6' 270 pound weakling now and any advice would be great here bros!!

sorry to hear that freekzilla, its really tough to lose that part of your lifts its kinda like when people see you have a fast car they want to know the 0-60 or qtr mile on it, when they see your big or lift they want to know what ya bench. my goal was to break 400 i was right there or a little past it when it tore (not exactly sure never maxed out at the time). i understand your depression it almost feels like youve been castrated or something. well GL and keep at it , but like these guys say take it slow and hopefully it will come back. keep me posted to any improvement and ill do the same for you

i know these posts are old but the content is still very relevant. it sounds to me that these gus "tore their pec", and continued to lift weights, just a little weaker...where as i tore mine 2 weeks ago today and now have just been able to put my socks on with some discomfort. by no means am i mocking people, just curious about the length of time one rests before even thinking of going back to the gym for some light reps. i am depressed as hell and in the middle of summer cycle yet.:

bro, i didnt lift for TEN years after i tore my pec.it was painful to do everyday things for almost a year.im sorry to say that to you as im sure u r emotionaly shot from it. i was devistated and it was a very severe tear, i cried my eyes out in the emergency room and not from the pain.anyway it took yrs and a little maturity to decide i could come back and lift even if i didnt have a monster bench anymore(i was closing in on a 400lb raw bench, i was natty as well).i just did 225 for 6 reps on the smith machine saturday which sounds wimpy but i was excited to see 2 plates again, anyway if u need to vent or what go at it ive been there and i'll listen, condolences bro!

have u checked into surgery? mine couldnt be fixed because it was purely a muscle tear, alot of the time tendon or whatnot is there and it can be fixed, id deff look into it
