Ok I've been wanting to go to brazil all my life and now that I finally have the funds everyone is telling me that it's dangerous for americans and that there's a murder everyday in Rio and I'll get kidnapped or some bull shit. Anyone actaully been? How was it ? Are the chicks really as hot as they are on tv and the net.? Ipanema?

Of course there are murders there, there are murders in practically every city in America and does that stop us from traveling to them? No!

I do suggest learning some basic Portuguese and possibly have a guide because like any city you can wind up in the wrong area, in Brazil this is the "favela" or slum.

Ipanema, Barra Da Tijuca, Copacabana are very popular.

Yep, been to Rio and to Sao Paulo. Rio can be very dangerous if you don't know where you're going, or go around by yourself, even during the day. I consider Rio one of the most dangerous places I've been for touristas.

If you do go don't go outside of the tourist area and that's not very big, basically a strip fronting the ocean. When you go out don't wear any jewelry, don't carry anything you wouldn't want to lose and carry only enough money for what you plan to do and always travel with somebody.

Lots of poverty and roving gangs of kids who will rob you blind. If you want to see South America, check out Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, or Santiago, Chile. Not as glamorous as Rio but a helluva lot safer and you'll only get to see a little of Rio if you don't have contacts down there that know the ins and outs.

Bro, I spent two weeks in florianopolis (South of porto alegre) for two weeks surfing. Honestly the best trip of my life. The girls are unbelievable. I recommend here because it's out of the touristy area but is world renowned for its beaches. we rented a house for 5 dollars a day!

Is it hard to find houses on the beach like that? I'm sure it will during carnaval but I don't give a shit about that. I just want to go to beaches, go to a couple scenic sites, and of course the girls and the clubs. Is US money strong there? How much would you say you spent there. I gotta eat good.

i was going to suggest florianopolis. here are my reasons:
the landscape is comparable to hawaii
the people are pretty laid back because southern brazil is comprised of mostly gouchos, or brazilian cowboys
and the women... are beautiful! there is alot of european descent there. european+latin= gorgeous!
plus 1 us dollar is like 2.17 real
