Thread: Oat Meal intake....

    Oat Meal intake....

I mix 1 cup dry old fashioned oats with 2 scoops of protein whey & some water... Drink it down & spoon out whats left...

I run my oats threw a produce chopper to make a little easyer going down....

What more efficient cooking them or drinking them?

How you guys take your oat's down?

I cook mine, but it doesn't matter. Your body doesn't care if they're cooked or not.

I just blend mine in a blender for about a minute or two, makes it into like a flour consistency. Goes down smooth and doesnt clump, plus you can use it for recipes that call for flour.

i usullay do that too when im in quck need of something in my stomach. i usually mix 1 cup of oats, a banana, and some milk, and sometimes il add a scoop of whey if im feeling like i need some spice in my life. its great for a quick meal, maybe throw in a multi-vitamin.

Grinding them up in a food processor will affect the GI value of the oats (i.e. it will increase the GI). By how much, I am unsure?

As far as cooking them or eating them raw...Depends how much time I have. There will be some small difference in the nutritional content of raw vs cooked. It can be checked here:

I never really payed attention to GI.. I found this interesting when reading up on it...

"For example, for breakfast, you might want to have oatmeal. Choose thick, dehulled oat flakes to make your oatmeal (these have a lower GI than rolled oats or one-minute oats), then eat grapefruit (one of the lower GI fruits) with your oatmeal rather than a banana (a fruit with a higher GI), and toss a few nuts or seeds over the oatmeal (nuts and seeds tend to have extremely low GIs). Finally, sprinkle a little cinnamon over your oatmeal. Recent studies have found that compounds in cinnamon can stimulate our cells' insulin receptors, increasing the cells' ability to absorb and use glucose. In this way, you can reduce the GI of your oatmeal and enjoy a nourishing breakfast that will provide you with plenty of energy all morning. "

Depends...I mix it up in a blender with my protein powder..I cook it and eat it with some splenda and strawberries...or I toss 1 cup of oatmeal, 2 egg whites, and just enough milk to keep it moist and consistency of a batter...blend it and cook it up like pancakes...my kids (3yrs & 5yrs) love my oatmeal pancakes...
