I'm wondering if anyone can help me

Before my knee surgery (probably a year, had a motorcycle accident and I tore ligaments) I mainly worked out my upper body. I don't know what I did but the morning after I worked back and bi's the ligament on the inside of my right arm started bothering me. I ignored the pain and continued to work out. I spoke to my doctor (the same one that I go see my knee for) and he took an XRay and saw nothing (no tears) and gave me some anti-inflammatory pills. He said it might take a while to heal and wasn't too concerned about it. I am starting to freak out because my left bi measures 13 and 3/4 inches and my right measures 13 and 1/4 inches. My question is, how long does this take to heal? I never really stopped working my arms out, just handled the pain.

Take a step back for a sec - do you notice that one side of your body is generally bigger than the other side? My left foot is 1/2 size bigger than the right. My left bicep measures 1/2" bigger than the right. These sorts of assymetries are very common. So start w/ that to see if you actually have a true problem.

Speaking as someone w/ LOTS of joint pains now -- pay attention to your body. You don't need a tear to have an injury. I have lots of tendonitis & bursitis - basically every joint I have has an issue of one sort or another.

You might consider seeing a physical therapist or a sports injury expert for an evaluation and a rehab program. Sometimes I wonder if you can ever really recover from certain things - its like having a sprain - it heals but never really goes away.

Beyond that - I would look more closely at what specific movements cause you pain and come up w/ a way to work around that or identify exercises that give you a good balance of training (i.e. if you spend too much time on some muscles and ignore others you get an imbalance that will manifest other issues eventually). For example - I have done upright rows w/ an EZ curl bar for most of my life. I also get an evil pinch in my wrist w/ that grip. I switched to doing upright rows with dumbbells instead. Doesn't constrain my wrist to the angle dictated by the EZ curl bar.

Isolate the specific thing that gets aggravated w/ certain exercises. Then step back on that - stay off it / ice it/ anti-inflammatories so you can start back w/ a rehab program at a neutral point instead of further aggravating something that is already touchy. Then start back and see if its something that you can build up strength on instead of poundign it every time you do your usual routine - consider doing some basic stuff w/ resistance bands instead of weights. Its ok to start light - the point is to rehab the strength instead of aggravating it which in turn will cause other parts of your body to compensate and they themselves result in imbalance. (Case in point - I have always had rotator cuff problems but never really lifted heavy enough to make it a big deal. THen last year I was prepping for a show and added behind the head military press just for shits & grins. This immediately hit my right rotator just right - resulted in the whole right side of my back engaging to protect the rotator. This resulted in developing cramps and knots all up & down the right side of my back - actually caused my scapula to get pushed out on a regular basis. Had to see my chiro + massage therapist to get it pushed back in ever week.

Thanks for the info Sassy69. This has been going off and on for about 6 months now. I have seen a sports doc and he doesn't seem too worried about it. I do exercises that don't cause me so much pain on the inside of my elbow like preacher curls, I do them half way or standing curls the same way. He did give me ant***amm. pills but I try not to take them. I guess this is something that I am going to have to deal with for a long time.

Maybe you pinched a nerve. Did you lose strength in your arm? Before i workout, especially back, i warm-up and stretch. My right arm is 3/4 inch bigger than right. It's pretty common for each side to be a little different.
