I had a liver funtion test when I was taking 100mgs of anadrol and my ALT/AST levels were a little high. I stopped taking it and took the test again 2 weeks later and they were normal again

Stop drinking! Well that is if you do drink.. AST > ALT is a sign that the liver is taking stress from alcohol.. it may also be steroids, I'm not sure bout that... Usually though insults to the liver raise both AST and ALT..

edit: Sorry you said your alt was raised I read that wrong.. yeah it could be from steroids, usually oral ones that are filtered at high concentrations through the liver.

I don't touch alcohol while on cycle and barely when I'm off.

Ibuprofen can raise you ALT/AST levels...not just alcohol

Yeah, I thought you mentioned AST being high.. not ALT, I read it wrong.. When AST is higher than ALT that usually means alcohol related..

Do you know the GGT or alk phosphate levels, oh and Bilirubin levels?

As you probably know the AST and ALT are liver enzymes that reside inside the hepatocytes. ALT is pretty specific to the liver but AST can be found in liver, heart, brain, muscle, and kidney.. If the liver cells get injured or inflamed then they release their enzymes and the high levels are picked up in a blood test.. Most drugs are metabolized to some degree by the liver and can either be toxic to the liver before being metabolized or be converted to a toxic metabolite.. The liver tries to change the drug into something that can be excreted better. A good example of this is tylenol that is metabolized to a toxic metabolite by the liver.. In small quantities it gets excreted so fast after being metabolized that it doesn't hurt the liver, but if you take a bunch at one time or drink alcohol and add a bunch of Tylenol in there then you liver will be hurting..

Now as you can imagine there are many reasons that your liver enzymes could be elevated, could be drug related, steroids or others, herbal toxicity, excessive exercise, viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, Wilson's disease.. Okay, I know I'm getting crazy, but you get the picture..

GGT and Alk Phos are for billiary disease that could be then causing the liver problems.

Some helpful information would be: what drugs / herbal supplements are you taking besides steroids, do you have any symptoms, how high are the liver enzymes, stuff like that..

Now to finally answer the question of how to lower them.. Stop the oral steroids, stop any other drugs / herbal supplements that could be causing it and drink lots of water.
