what exactly is that supposed to be a flame thrower
Haha no its a home made jet engine
yeah, and a friggin dangerous one at that. they made it out of mild steel. hell, the second blower was glowing red. the idiots are friggin lucky it didn't crateor and send shards of 1200 degree steel all over the place!
dude that thing is ****ing awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i want one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol that's what i was thinkin....needed stronger steel or a thicker tube wall at least lolOriginally Posted by 3**

how do you explain that to the emergency room lol....."yea so we built a jet engine......and blew it up.....really!!!!! we did i swear!! that how all this molten steel got embedded in me"
Boom![]()
I saw that video...amazing what people can create with a little though and some spare parts. I bet the neighbors were pissed that night!
darwinism at its best....
i guess you guys have little mechanical knowledge i dont see anything really unsafe about it...its built on a jig and anchored, its simplistic and basic in its design the only crued part is the raw fuel that is passed through it making it incredibly inneficient but still not that dangerous seeing as how jet fuel isnt highly explosive (basically diesel fuel) i think its pretty damn ingenious and am considering playing with the idea myself..... you think pratt and whitney built the jett engines of today on their first try? gotta start somewhere pretty impressive for some garage tinkering....Originally Posted by pewntang
i think it's pretty impressive also. To use a Turbo to build up the pressure needed for that kinda of combustion....It's the basic design of a turbo-prob engine. I don't think it was anything dangerous, I'd be pretty pissed if I was thier next door neighbor though...I'd be throwing melons at them for all that damn noiseOriginally Posted by Haro3
yes but the material selection commitee needs to have it's head examined. none of those components were meant for that tempreature service. that mild steel is only about 400 deg from going liquid... along with the second blower... and the fuel source is right below everything!!!!!!!... with eveyone hunched over excitedly from about 3 feet away!!!!!!. the blowers look like Catipilar blowers which were never rated for these temps or apps, and the piping should have been made out of 310 stainless, AT THE VERY LEAST! real jet engines are made out of inconel... very.... very ....very expensive shit. nope, none of these dumbasses had even as much of eye-goggles on for safety... this is what Darwin Awards was made for!Originally Posted by Haro3
Could cook an egg on that thing.
Not as scary as a machinegun barrel that's got so many rounds going through it that it gets WHITE HOT though, and you can actually SEE the bullets passing through it. THATS scary. Especially when the bore inside gets all warped and fvcked up because it overheated and your fireteam partnet with you on the range tells you to keep going.
That's what that jet engine reminded me of when it got red.
i really particularly liked the fuel source in an open 5 gal bucket 2 feet away!!!!
Yeah that's fvcked up, I was expecting that to catch flame and explode.Originally Posted by 3**
