I'm getting rid of my '05 yz250 and thinking of picking up one of these. I've had Hondas, Kawasakis and a Yamaha, going to see what KTM has to offer. Keeping it 2-stroke. BRAAAAP!

I had a 02 ktm 250 two stoke when I was younger and it was my favorite bike I had but I like the 450f 4 stroke I have now I dont have to look for power anywhere in the bands

    I used to race a 4 stroke, a 2004 crf250, but I went back to a 2 stroke for several reasons.

    1. I could never get that bike to handle well. I spent over $800 in suspension work and it still wanted to push in the turns and didn't like to be leaned over.

    2. The extra weight, you can feel it more because it higher center of gravity.

    3. God forbid if you ever stalled in in a race. It was a PITA to get started again, especially if you fell and the bike layed over. I learned to pull the clutch in and hold on with that had if I felt I was going down.

    4. I was always afraid of gernading the motor. Those things rev pretty high and a 4 stroke has alot of expensive parts if things go wrong. You can easily see a $1,500+ motor job if something happens. My 2 stroke cost about $150 for a piston a gasket set.

Overall, it's all preference. I just love the way a 2 stroke sounds, accelerates and how light they are.

yeah I agree I love two strokes for tracks but I dont really race anymore I just tear up the desert now so four strokes in open areas you cant beat my 450f it is crazy fast out there I can just roll on the throttle in any gear and it has power I dont have to wait for the power band to kick in like the two strokes but when the do hold on you know

I used to ride only two strokes, but the new four strokes handle better than any two stroke (the gyrating effect of the counterbalancer). The tiddler has more torque than any two stroke of similar displacement, is more tractable, cheaper to maintain (to a point of course), and has more hop-up potential. I will never go back to a two stroke because they are behind the times and are just plain not-competitive in the A class.

Alot of the is not true. I can put (lets say Johhny Galagher) on a 2 stroke, and some joe shmoe on a new 4stroke. I will take Johnny all day long. The bike is only part of it. ALOT is the rider.

Thanks man, lots of money and time into, still isnt done. Got it finished, went to Penn to Paragon and nearly destroyed it, back to rebuilding.
