Angry Back muscles go into spasm at night. Help Doc.Sust

I have no idea what I did to my back. A few months ago, out of nowhere my back started hurting during the night (between the shoulder blades on the left side of my spine). The pain would get so intense that I could not breath deeply and no position would help. During the day after waking up, Id move around a little my back would loosen up and Id be pain free, until I went back to sleep. 2AM seems to be my new friend. I see it every night now. There have been a few nights where I was up all night (flying to Europe) and the pain never set in. Only when Im sleeping for 3-4 hours does it really start to go nuts.

I went to my Chiropractor several times. He found that I was pretty straight, however, he thought he found a rib out of joint and he'd pop it back into place where I was having the pain. However, this did not help the situation. In fact, a few times, it seemed to make matters worse.

I am now going to a massage therapist. She said it would take 3-4 sessions to get all the knots out. After my 1st session, it got better but not perfect. After 4-5 days, its just as bad as before.

Im at the point where Im going to see a doctor. I think its muscular because I can feel the spasms, but Im not positive. I dont understand why it only hurts at night. I cant sleep anymore. I blame it all on steroids! j/k.

Any ideas? Sorry about the long read, thanks for your help.

I want it. Give it to me. Is it over the counter or do I need a script? Can I buy some off you?

Okay I went to my doctor and got some of this:
    Carisoprodol SOMA WATSON : 350MG (90 tab)

However, my doctor forgot to tell me how many to take. One per night should do, eh?

Im currently not on cycle or pct. My last cycle began 3 months ago (8 week cutter running prop & npp followed by 4 weeks typical nolva, letro, clomid pct) I do not take any OTC or prescription drugs. The only thing that goes into my body on a daily bases is whole food, water and iso whey protein. I have never had a history of illness or chronic pain. This is my first ongoing issue. I have broken many of my fingers, hand, and nose but nothing serious.

I went to the massage therapist today, she said I have more knots than she has seen in a long time.

    Hope this helps.

I would go to a sports orthopedist. Years ago I went to one for lower back pain and found out that I had spondylolistheses...which basically means a vertabrae detached from the spine. Sounds like yours is upper back and more muscle related though, so its probably not that.

Thats a good idea. Last night, I signed up for some excellent health insurance (if there is such a thing) so Im going to go that route asap as well. I am also going to get some bloodwork done....fingers crossed.

Today I see the massage therapist. It hurts like a be-atch but its helping.

Here is another symptom: the 3 middle toes on my right foot have a numb sensation? They are not 100% numb, as there is sensation to the touch.

    wtf?

This is leading me to belive your problem is coming from degenerative changes in your spine. Because the pain is in the upper back, most likely you have a problem disc in your neck (C 5-6 or 6-7). You would need an MRI to be sure. Treatment would be removal and fusion of the disc through an anterior approach. See either a neurosurgeon or orthopedic spine.

Thanks for your thoughts, Kratos. I will be going to get the full works as soon as my insurance begins.

Good news, however, after my massage today, that numb sensation has faded a little. Im hoping that its just a massive muscle issue, well see, as you could be right.

People almost never have problems with thoracic degeneration, you just don't move enough there. I've only seen 4 thorasic fusions, and thousands of lumbar and cervical spine fusions. I work in orthopedic impants, so I'm quick to assume surgery is needed. When your a hammer everything looks like a nail ya know. Most of times your back gets better on it's own, it probably will in your case. If time is going by with no improvement check out getting a work-up with MRI to see what's going on in there.

I agree with you. The pain started when I went on my cutter 4 or 5 months ago. I dropped kcals way too fast and I overtrained. I didnt realize I was doing this potential harm as I was listening to my trainer. As I ended my cutter, the back pain began at night only...It would hurt very bad, Id take Ibuprofen, go back to sleep, and forget about it until the next night when it would hurt again. The pain didnt exist during the day and Id forget about it. However, as I continued to train and increase my weight intensity and upping my kcals, the pain increased during the night. Its so strange. Now, the pain is becoming a part of my daily activities. It is not that bad, but I know that its there. However, with the last 2 visits to my massage therapist, its become much better. I have not trained my back in 2 months but I am learning that I need train my legs another way. When I do squats, the pain that night is horrible. One other note: when I train my chest, arms, shoulders, I FEEL GREAT! My back feels good and loose after those workouts and I feel like a million bucks...until 2AM that night when it gets stiff again....

    Just an update:

Trigger point therapy was the answer for me. Bought the book by Davies and Davies. Best $20 I spent. Its too bad I spent nearly $1000 on chiro and massage therapy for nothing only to find this book on my own research.
