I tend to disagree here, there isn't much untapped domestic oil except for anwr and in 5000 feet of water off the gulf of mexico. The report, issued by the Energy Information Administration, or EIA, said that if Congress gave the go-ahead to pump oil from Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the crude could begin flowing by 2013 (if they gave the go ahead in 2004 when the report came out) and reach a peak of 876,000 barrels a day by 2025. But even at peak production, the EIA analysis said, the United States would still have to import two-thirds of its oil, as opposed to an expected 70 percent if the refuge’s oil remained off the market. But even the additional domestic production would not be enough to overcome increased demand, meaning continued heavy reliance on imports, the EIA said. Currently, the United States imports about 56 percent of the oil it consumes. Where else do you want to drill? You can't ignore the consuption problem forever and only focus on production. It only buys you time, and another question, do you want to burn up all US oil first and rely on forgin oil later? We should deplete the world of its oil before our own imo, it won't be there later, china and other devolping nations will use it to fuel their economies. The clock is ticking and we need real soloutions.
