Question Blood Pressure Medication = weight gain ????

Blood Pressure Medication = weight gain ????

Has anyone had this problem ???

I’m taking Aenolol/Chlorthal 100/25 MYL Once a day for the past few months and have steadily gained 25lbs.

My work outs have not changed nor has my diet, in fact I’m even more careful about what I eat and even what times I eat.

I did notice that my resting Heart rate has dropped to 55bpm and my Max heart rate is 135 wear it used to be 170bpm.

Could my metabolism be getting slowed down with my heart rate? I looked up the Meds online and there was not much information.

My Doctor is an Old Guy and said “It can’t be the pills” - ??

I feel all doughy and bloated

    Stats:
    38yrs Old
    235/240 (Now 255/260lbs)
4-6 days a week working out
    Currently 1cc/100mg Test E (TRT)

Atenolol-Chlorthalidone is combination of a beta-blocker and a diuretic. Most likely, the beta-blocker is why your heart rate is lower. The diuretic should be keeping excess excess fluid out of your system.
I'm on several BP/cardiac meds, and the beta-blocker I take hasn't caused any weight gain.
However, you are about at the age I was when I noticed that it was real easy to gain weight.

There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

I'm on Accuretic and had no issues just hard as hell to cut. Does make me piss like a racehorse though.

    Well that sucks... LOL

Seriously, why would this gain start the same time as I started taking a larger dose of BP meds ???

I'm just wondering about if "normal workouts" are just not enough seeing as my heart rate is so much lower, maybe I'm just simply not burning enough calories.

Bro,i've been on bp meds since my early 30's,i'm 44 now.I steadily saw my weight increase,my question is have you always worked out and been fit?In the last year or so I lost alot of weight and am finding it kinda hard to bulk up now,and I'm still on meds, only less amounts.BTW i was also on a bp and diuretic and it hurt my kidney function so keep an eye on that.

When you say always worked out and been fit, I would say yes. I lift more now than I did while playing football and I run every day 3-4 miles.

That’s what I can’t understand, I'm running or sometimes rowing for 30min plus after a 1.5hr workout and I'm still gaining weight.

And I normally don’t run, my wife is training for a Triathlon and she suckered me into doing a 1/2 tri so I need to get my running legs back.

If your diet is pretty good and you're doing all of that cardio, I would be tempted to ask my doc to order some lab work for my thyroid function. I'm not saying that your thyroid is out of whack, but running 3-4 miles every day and still gaining weight on a decent diet is pretty funky.

I'm going to have to do that. I'm under 1600-1800 cal a day and they are CLEAN, any less I start feeling sick and run down.

    Thanks
