    Texas Dog Laws??

    Ok, so heres the skinny.

This guy on a motorized scooter always rides around the neighborhood as his little dog runs around freely.

The other day, my neighbors black lab jumped the fence, and attacked the little dog, breaking one of its legs and puncturing a lung. sad I know.
Its currently being treated the best it can be.

Anywho, the man is about to sue them, the vet bill is currently 7,000 bucks
And of course, they don't have that money to pay it.
And they are trying to get some of us neighbors to help out in writing letters and such.

Is there a leash law in Texas? Also, this dog was in their yard.

    Whose in the right here?

i probably would......and i'm also surprised that the black lab jumped the fence and attacked another dog....seems out of character for their breed.....i grew up with labs and i'd suggest them to anyone for a family pet.

i'd say the lab family shouldn't be required to pay- Though it's a difficult circumstance...i still wouldn't put the family at fault to pay for the other dogs medical expenses....risk you take for letting your dog run free i'd say...and from what you said, the lab was in a fence; the family obviously weren't allowing their dog to just run free....

Well this is some old retired guy. Thats all he has is his dog.

I know thats expensive, but I dont think he lives for much else.

poor guy, but I just don't think he is gonna win this one.

thats what I thought. I have a black lab of my own. friendly as could be.
although he does get real territorial at times.

He use to jump my fence, so I had to make it higher. it was a 4 foot fence too...lol

I am sorry but i just dont get that attached to animals. If the bill was 7K and the dog was mine, he would be in puppy heaven by now.

the owner is responsible for the actions of pets, leashed or not.. so the damage done should be repaid. That's why homeowners have insurance.

When I was living in Florida, I had two Pits, Chaos and Zeus. Chaos was 80lbs and Zeus was 60lbs. My neighbor had this nasty mutt and I asked them to leash it up when my girl was walking them but they didn't. Needless to say the mutt broke free and charged my girl and my pups F***** that mutt up, bad. They tried to hit me with the bill, so naturally I told them to F*** themselves. They took me to court and they lost becuase the dog was unleashed and it came on my property. Sucks though for the old guy. My grandfather lives for his dog too. Nobody really wins here

If the dog jumped the fence... he is just a liable as the old man....if the lab was in his backyard or chained in the front yard and the lil sh*t dog ran into his yard...then it is not his fault. That is texas law.
