    Gym intensity

    My intensity at the gym....
I like to think it encourages others to work harder. There have been many times where I start working out next to someone being lackadaisical, then I start banging out sets they start trying way harder.

It's funny you posted this today.
Most of you that followed the Jan comp have seen my pictures. I'm not a huge person by no means but feel I'm in above average shape for soon to be 48 year old.

I am always helpful and supportive of everyone in the gym if they are trying hard and ask for help,if they will talk to me that is. I have been accused of being a little intimidating from time to time.

I feel that I do encourage most members to work harder that know me. I train now and then with a couple of members that needed a little push and some basic knowledge and they are really kicking ass.

On the other hand just today there were a couple of guys just starting at the dumbell rack when I walked up and started my workout. My weights were considerably heavier than theirs and on my second warmup set they left and went upstairs. I have had this happen a few times.

I don't think we make them feel bad about themselves but I have been in that spot in the beginning of this lifestyle. I think some people just get intimidated by more experienced lifters.

I train alone in my basement. Therefore encouragement in any form does not come into play.
I feel bad about myself most days working out. Then i realize I'm neither fat nor skinny so it can't be that bad.
There's a Planet Fitness less than a mile from my home. Not sure I'd fit in but at $10 bucks a month it is tempting.

Chances that you and Planet Fitness will have a healthy and sustainable relationship is about slim to none.

They won't take guys that are 240+ with less than 25% body fat. To "intimidating"...

Absolutely. The double standard is overwhelming.

I went to Planet Fitness with my daughter once. It was too quiet and clean. It felt like a library. The whole place was color matched with the machines. Damn, it's like wearing socks that matched my pants. I could take a fashion lesson from Planet Fitness.

As for intensity? I LOVE going hard at workouts. Unfortunately, at 59 my joints can't take the weights/reps that I want to train with. I really like the saying, go hard or go home.
