    Advice (Info) on Umbilical hernia.

Hey guys. I have a double hernia and had the left repaired 5 years ago. Post op was brutal and I haven't really felt any better (more or less the same-except the mesh is in there). My lower abs hurt everytime I train them, not the good training hurt...I mean hurt when I'm doing them. Lately, I've had pain right under my belly button after swinging a bat, training lower abs, or sometimes after defication. It's sore to the touch. Anyone have any knowledge about umbilical hernias, what are the symptoms, is there a treatment available, etc.? The right side of my hernia was mild compared to the left side, that's why I didn't have it done. It still feels the same, not really a problem. Any advice, suggestion? Thanks in advance.

I had one and had it repaired. Mine was above the belly button. Very much like you descibed. A little localized pain and if I probed the area with my fingers could feel a slight bulge. Went to the Doc and she said I had a slight tear that could be left as is and watched or go ahead and repair. I opted just to get it fixed so I didn't have to worry about it. It was much worse than they thought once they opened me up. I ended up with mesh from my belly button up to my sternum. The incision is only about 1.5". Recovery was not too bad. A couple of days of bed rest then I went back to work (desk job). The pain of the muscl and tissue growing into the mesh sucks bad. Very intense very sharp pains out of no where. It took about a year for those to completely go away. No issues now after 7-8 years. Given the choice today I would still have it repaired.
