Botox : A discussion from the neck up

So, we are all obsessed over our bodies from the neck down. Whether we are looking in the bathroom mirrior or catch a glace in the reflection of a car's window we are constantly critiquing and usually criticizing for improvment within ourselves.

Now from the neck up :

    Botox Injections

The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name Botox®, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Studies have also suggested that Botox is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.

I have had two sessions with the doctor, for Botox, for my forehead and 'crows feet' along the sides of my eyes. I have to say I really like the results and will continue to use the product within reason. I paid as much attention as possible to the procedure and asked as many questions as I could during the brief ten minute appointments. Reason being is I have a source for the actual product and am considering doing it myself.

I am looking for input, information, experiences, etc. from the fellow members here at AR. Some people are private about having this done and may wish not to discuss this openly on the thread. You are more than welcome to PM me to talk if that is more comfortable for you.

Ladies, don't be shy to chime in.

    Thank you in advance.

I have found that the "biggest bang for the buck" with Botox is in the glabellar region (between the eyebrows), particularly with patients who are afflicted with a "perma-frown". Within 10-14 days, this region relaxes, giving them a happier, more relaxed appearance.

Botox also works very well for the forehead. Results for around the eyes vary. I find that I can usually achieve "softening" of the periorbital wrinkles however, Botox will NOT prevent the malar (cheek) elevation that occurs with smiling and therefore these lines may not disappear completely.

I should probably also add that the cosmetic indications for Botox continue to expand, with Botox also used for platysmal bands (chicken neck), down turned corners of the mouth (DAO).

As you spread further from the "standard" areas, results become more variable and (to some extent) a little less predictable.

It bears mentioning (although I know that everyone out there already knows this) that the MOST IMPORTANT factor in preserving young looking skin is avoiding excessive sun exposure (i.e. use sun screen etc...)

    Good luck!

Thanks for the solid input. The top 1/3 of the facial area is the infamous and most popular region that people get done. I had my second session at the beginning of this month and am sold on the chemical. "Relaxed" is a great way to describe the look and feeling I get. As far as other uses, it is expanding. I had a woman chime in at another site on the subject where she is taking her 13 yo daughter in to the doctor to solve a drooling problem she has. No doubt that proper cleaning, moisturizing and prevention of sun exposure comes first and on a daily regiment. However, Botox is my new "steroid' for the neck up to put me over the top to where I want to be.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this is not for everyone but I am content, at this point. My look is still natural but younger looking by far.

    Thanks, again.

The use of Botox for drooling is quite interesting. This is a significant problem for severely disabled people, particularly children with cerebral palsy. The saliva eventually causes skin breakdown and can be a significant medical problem. In these cases, Botox is actually injected directly into the salivary gland where is reduces saliva production, thereby improving the patient's clinical situation.

While Botox has at least as big a profile on the non-cosmetic therapeutic side, both areas are expanding rapidly.

I should also say that current cosmetic techniques are quite good at getting a natural look and avoiding the "frozen face" effect.

omg i swear by botox and radiesse-i get botox every three months on the dot in my forehead and around my eyes-it only works in the upper face area-you cant use it in the lower face-it would cause facial paralysis-i get filler-radiesse every six months in the nose to mouth lines-and have a titan laser done to keep the jawline firm-and venus laser at the same time to make pores small-keep them small-the face is so important-i dont care how perfect your body is-an old wrinkled leathered face ruins the look-if you care about the body you should care about the skin -i never got guys who were hugeeeee -put so much work and dedication into the body and had a busted face-the most important thing is use self tanner-and wear spf 30 everyday-dont tan-the sun ages you faster than anything-and you need good skincare

HEYYYY i just saw where you said you can get it and might do it yourself--NOOOOOOOOOOOOO-look-you have to be trained a to know where the nerve endings and muscles are are that you want to paralyze-if you hit something wrong you could paralyze your face or get drooping eyes -botox is great but this is not a do it yourself thing-its your face--3 months is along time to look like you had a stroke-i had a shot once done wrong and i had one eye droop for two months-i had to have electrical current therapy to shock the muscle to respond quicker-
