Definitely not a big team at all. But they were very disciplined and very, very physical. They always had a big, strong, running back (ie Chris Cormier, Booby Miles). The town is consumed with football. The kids of that town run the same system from the time they are 8yrs old. So by the time they get to high school, there is very little learning curve.
Shortly after their state championship run in the late 80s and eary 90s, Permian was given the death penalty for recruiting players outside there area. They were disallowed to play post season ball for, I believe, 5 yrs.
Again, they were a great all around team. Very well coached and that 'Permian Mojo' was hard to overcome. Great program indeed!
