    Shoulder Pain

    Hey

I usually do chest Sundays, so I got ready for my bench, 245 for a nice little stretch, and as I tryed to lift it, I had this little sharp pain in my left shoulder. I figured I would let it heal and do arms instead. I let it heal for a while and I did bench today and it was worse, I fought through the initial pain and started benching, while I benched the pain was little bit there so It started messing with my mind. After I did 10 reps, I dropped to 225 so I dont kill my shoulder and still had the same intensity of pain. Incline bench doesn't hurt at all, just flat bench. All other chest exercises, db bench etc, are fine.

Any help on what it is or what I should do????

    Thanks

I did the exact same thing yesterday, shoulders in agony today.
happened to me about 18months ago and i tried to just lift through it, ended up hurting for months, until i eventually rested it,
take a week off anything that aggrevates it , see how that helps

I get the same pain aswell from time to time. Random soulder pain while doing flat chest. It's more annoying than anything else.

Wish i had an answer for you man. I did the same thing yesterday. I hardly ever get on the bench, but wanted to see i was at as opposed to 6-8 ago, and 6-8 weeks from now. I took a few days off from the gym for some recoop, and was told that was the best way to gauge your strength.
Anyway, sounds like we might have the same problem, and if it doesn't get better by Monday, i'm going to the doc. Then i'll let you know what he said. I can't even get my arm horizontal to the ground. Good luck man.

Thanks man. AdamGH might be on to something as far as old age. As the day went on today i was able to lift it above my head. It's still sore as hell, but it has improved. We'll see as the week goes on.
    Good luck with yours too.

i get pain in my shoulders at times as well. i usually just keep lifiting and figure it is a sign of my old age kicking in. the pain is gone later in the day as the pump wears off. i wouldn't worry about it.

Don't lift through this type of pain - sharp pain.

I have gotten sharp shoulder pain from flat bench, but nothing from incline or dumbbell flat press or flyes or cable crossovers.

My take - flat barbell bench just sucks as an exercise for some people due to their anatomy, and its not worth injuring yourself. Give it some time, go lighter - I use the Smith when I flat bench now, but you don't even have to flat barbell bench to get good chest development.

My shoulder has been hurting me for about 3 weeks now. Sharp sharp pain when i do flat and decline. The pain is not near as bad when i do incline. It flares up every time i do chest and by the next chest day it feels great. But i do chest again and it kills me for a few days. I am going to have to take some time off from chest days and if it doesn't heal, i am going to the doctor. It is hard to stay motivated when you have pain in your shoulder and you can't be very intense.

DO NOT take it lightly and do NOT try and work through it. I tore my left should big time and it took months for it to heal because I tried to work through it(it's never been 100%) and now I have the same sharp pain in my right shoulder. I'm sooooo pissed. I cannot do chest at all! I can't even push open a door with my right arm. What did it was flat bench!!! It takes a serious toll on your shoulders. REST REST REST....

i agree with buylongterm.. shoulders are nothing to mess with...i had to have surgery a lil over a year ago from "pushing thru" do yourself a huge favor and rest it for sad to say at least a month. no flat bench for 8-12 weeks. trust me on this guys you will thank me. cuz if you push thru youll be out of the game for a year rehabing your shoulder. this is from experience, please donot take what i say with a grain of salt.. widowmaker
