Document Warrant Served on Patrick Arnold and Ergopharm
Ergopharm and Patrick Arnold RAIDED BY THE DEA!
I have been told by a contact in Boston that they were recently (*yesterday) made aware of a warrant being served on (BALCO Chemist) Patrick Arnold and Ergopharm, by the local branch of the DEA. Details are sketchy right now, and I’m not 1000% sure about this, but I’m inclined to go with the source I have up in Boston.
Early reports say that it was actually a document warrant served by the Boston Office of the DEA (New England Division) on Patrick Arnold and Ergopharm, his nutritional company.
A document warrant is a type of search warrant that means that the agents who serve the warrant are authorized to look for documents - this doesn’t mean they need to blind themselves to other material on the premises if they believe that there is something illegal about them, but simply that they are authorized to look for (and in) places that normally contain documents.
Patrick Arnold is, of course, the man who synthesized “The Clear” for Victor Conte’s athletes, during the BALCO scandal.
J. Clark Baird, a lawyer in Kentucky who deals in criminal law and additionally represents several supplement companies in various areas of nutritional compliance law explains: “I would say that if a document warrant were served on Ergopharm, it would be in reference to the recent claims by Major League Baseball players testing positive from using Ergopharm supplements…the government is probably looking to make sure the products comply with currently existing guidelines regarding nutritional supplements, and that nothing that shouldn’t be in them (or isn’t on the label) is found on the documents…“
I am told that the local United States Attorney’s office is handling everything, and as of yet, phone calls to their office and the media relations office of the DEA’s New England division have not been returned.
