Just bought a Subaru WRX STI

OKay so I just got this car, its a 2006.
I traded my Subaru Impreza RS in for it.
What I was wondering is, do you think the insurance will be much more then my other car? a couple people told me that is would only be like $180 added onto my premium, if that is the case then all is well.
But I have heard some stories that they are super expensive to insure.
anyone on this board drive an STI and pay insurace? if so I'd like to hear what you pay. because I am hoping I didnt make a mistake buying this car.

I think those cars are ugly as hell (no offense if you like it thats your thing), every high school street racer back in my hometown drives one. I just don't see the physical appeal.

For me I like the new Camaro, it has the power under the hood, but without making everyone think I am some street racer geek.

I guess it all depends on the person, but I do agree with you that the new Camaro is a nice car. But the Subaru is much better car for the streets for the simple reason it is all wheel drive, makes it a much better ride in my opionin.

yes all wheel drive gives you an advantage on roads lol. the wrx sti is also an impreza is it not? if thats the case it couldnt be that much more than what you are currently paying, but who pays insurance these days anyway?

Ive got an new STi and its quite dissappointing compared to the last generation, especially with the shitty OEM Dunlops. They definately need sway bars before any kind of fun can be had.

But to answer your question about insurance, not sure about the rates in the U.S, but in canada, the rates for Subaru's are as high as BMW's and going from the RS to either of the turbo models makes for much higher rates.

Yeah your right, the STI is just the next step up from the WRX, but I am not sure if the turbo is going to make a huge diffrence or not. I hope not lol

You have the 09? the 06 they but a stronger transmission in it because the older ones would go up really quick.

But you bare bad news lol I was hoping since they were both considered sports cars that it would stay somewhat the same.

Ha, once the prices started dropping a bit when our dollar got on par with yours, every 20-25 year old grabbed one from the US. Seriously, I see half a dozen 05-07's on the way to or from work each day

Congrats!! Insurance is ridiculous on those. I had an 04 and my insurance more than doubled for the year.

Sounds like you have subie experience and if you haven't checked out cobb.com's forums. Go there before you do anything to the ride. If you already knew that I apologize but just wanna make sure you get the right info.

    Enjoy

You should've taken the STI badge off and insured it as a regular WRX. If shit happened and they came down on you, tell em you don't know anything about cars and did not know there was a difference. Thats what I would've done. Then again I am shady with everything that I do.

They can tell by the VIN....that's how my insurance got me when I had mine. When I bought it I told them it was just an Impreza no WRX or STI added.

You bet. I'd hate to see anyone do the wrong thing to an STI because of bad advice. That forum is rock solid and there is a ton of searchable info on it.
