I don't see why people care about their bench weight so much, I mean its kind of childish this isn't high school and you aren't trying to bench the most in your class.

I forget what IFBB pro said this but he said I'd rather look like I can bench 500lbs and only bench 300 than just be able to bench 500lbs.

I mean even Kai Greene was asked by a dude while he was walking down muscle beach "Yo how much do you bench 400lbs?" and Kai Green laughed and said "I wish".

I mean my bench has never been that strong compared to what I look like, people see me and automatically assume I can bench at least 300lbs. And you know what? I am fine with that, I mean when you go out or to the beach or wherever I'd rather have people think I can bench 300lbs and look like I can, than be one of those dudes who is skinny and lean who can just bench alot.

I mean how much you lift in the gym is meaningless outside of the gym unless you walk around with a shirt or write "I can bench 315 4 times" on your forehead. It's all about apperance.

dang.. um i do 315 military press x 6 ... just did it today..

It's more important to me to the strength and size i am.. not how much i can lift... and i can bench if that's what i'm training a lot more than that.. have in the past, just don't like the way the body looks to have that much strength to do that..

20% bf, bench 525.. so.. you still look like a dough boy..

12% bf bench 315... much better.. much stronger, much better.. oh,... i said that..

people are ripping people about bench numbers...

ya jay cutler would say that he is a body builder he gets paid to be big.. but if your goals are power lifting then bench is one of the lifts... Don't down somebodies sport just because its not what you want.

If you are trying to get big then do that, don't rip the concept of people that have different goals in the gym.

i'm smaller than most people but i bench 500.. but my goal is powerlifting not body building

When did I "down" somebodies sport? how about you re-read my post, my post was not even about the video. It was about people in the gym who are not powerlifters who are average joes trying to get big who still act like high school kids when it comes to bench as if its some open competition. They act like if they can bench 10lbs more barely for 1 rep it somehow will make them more more muscular or they obsess when they cant get that extra rep.

Obviously if you are powerlifter you are going to be lifting for strength so why would say "why do powerlifters obsess over strength?" thats like saying "why do bodybuilders obbess for their appearance?" or why do track runners care so much about how fast they run the 40?

So please dont say I was ripping the concept that people in the gym had "other goals", I would be the last person to do that. I have friends who are MMA fighters and have people who are power lifters, I dont care what your goal is, my comments were directed to the average joes in the gym who are bouncing the bar off their chest to get an ego boost.

Now my friend is a powerlifter and he's only 20 and benches around 400 yet when you look at him you would just think he is a kind of bulky dude (but not that much heavier than me) who may have played football in high school and if you put us side by side and ask someone who benches 400 most people would pick me. Like I said appearance is everything, thats what the average joes should focus on and not how hard they can bounce a bar off their chest.

If your powerlifter, MMA fighter, whatever obviously your goals are different and I wasn't talking about those people.

i didn't quote you in my post because it wasn't directed at you, my post was just the concept in which i wrote about because this is about the third post here lately that has turned into "i'd rather be big than strong" "its stupid to bench 500 and look small"...

to my knowledge no actual power lifter on this site has ever bashed bodybuilders.. i won't lie i think it is very impressive what people do with thier diets, training, and bulk and cut phases.. i get the pay-per-view of Mr O every year to watch...

Immortal soldier, you took what i said as an attack on you, and to you, or anybody reading let me clarify it wasn't. thats why i neither quoted or named you..

thanks for clarifying, my post wasn't an attack on you or powerlifters, but more so the average joes who use bad form to bench more for ego boosts and the flawed thinking that "more weight for a couple reps will make me HUGE" when compared them doing 10-15lbs LESS and actually repping it out using good form.

Again alot of times people on this board are usually bodybuilders and there comments tend to bash those who take strength over mass too seriously, but that doesn't mean they bash powerlifters, because if that is your goal/job/hobby than thats your thing. I think powerlifters think the comments are directed towards them when in reality they are directed to the average person in the gym.

but - was it just me or was he doing half reps? i fully extend at the top to about 90 present...??? humm maybe im doing it wrong

and he needs cuffs on the end if he going to do any more reps other wise it will be his last set for sure as he dumps all the weight (the wrong way)
