    Splits?

Any of you guys able to do the splits?

I'm working on it....but I'm trying to figure out if there's a technique to the progression....been looking on youtube...but all the how to vids are like 8 year old girls that can already just lay their damn heads on the ground in front of them in a full split position...

the sitting way i can get my legs to about 150 degree angle or so now...i want the rest of the way though

Watch some Van Damme movies , LOL .

I have no idea if everyone is meant to be that flexible .
It seems that some people have genetics to be more athletic , muscular etc .
Anatomically possibilities are limited or contortionists wouldn't be such a anomaly .

    Good luck in trying .

Yoga may have some techniques that are valuable .

Kick boxing and Maui ti places have a contraption you sit in with a crank .

before everyone bashes you for wanting to do splits, Ruhl.

I think consistency is key. Just gotta stretch all the time. Don't think genetics has much to do with it.

Oh, and get yourself one of these:

well when i was younger i could do full splits its really easy heres how i did it

place both ur feet together and try and touch ur knees to the ground and keep moving ur feet towards ur nuts and keep forcing ur knees down to the ground
do this till u can touch ur knees to the ground without force by using ur hands once u can do a split its pretty easy it may take u up to 3 months to do a full one or less depends how much u try

so the one leg out in front way is easier? i seems like you just go back and forth stretchin the hip flexor of your back leg and the hamstring of your front leg to do that.

is there an anatomical reason why it's so much easier for girls to be really flexible?

Yeah something like that, if I stand with my back and heels against the wall I can lift one foot up and touch the wall with my toes above my head.

Yeah bro, well...front to back anyway. Sideways when I was a teen.

    I would recommend_

Dynamic stretching start of the day or pre-work out, this is straight leg kicks, side, front and back, a little higher on each one.

For post work out stretching- when you try to split, contract, so when you are in the front to back spilt, you are trying to push your rear leg into the floor.
Side splits, you would be trying to squeeze the legs together.

Squeeze/contract for 5 seconds, then stretch a bit deeper and so on....

It's not so much the muscles that you need to stretch but the recalibrating of the nerves ...particularly when doing sides.

    Good luck.
