must not have been anything they wanted. There are LOTs of cases of the mail service (USP) UPS, fedex and many of them who open packages especially letter looking for cash or checks.

Now other countries especially Thailand and Philippines you can expect letters to be opened 90% of the time and the contents missing IF it ever gets to you.

fedex has never opened my packs.

There are custom officers that work in the fedex warehouses.Packs are not screened at the airport, but are taken to the fedex facility and there are custom officers at the fedex facility.

    WTF, isn't that illegal?

I thought at least in US that usps can't lay a hand on your package unless its passing country lines. That has to be a violation of some civil right.. at least in America

i think they can open anything they deem suspicious...not sure....but they state in some forms of delivery that this can be subject to inspection....

example mailing via media mail is a lot cheaper and its supposed to be reserved for items like books/literature, cd's, etc. I have tried to get away with mailing regular stuff to save money by marking it media mail and out of about 40 times over the last 10 years....i've got caught twice...prolly got my name on postal software now

The US postal service have the right to screen and open any boxes sent thru them...Thats why when someone sends a pack they are asked if any harmful, liquid,or flammable...UPS and Fedex are all xraying packs now and if something looks sus[icious they will crack it open and hand it over to their security which in many cases is a customs agent.

I dont think FED EX even needs a warrant to open your package.
Your better off with the regular postal system.

Get it from a local source, Thai gear is not that expensive. Wont worth the risk for small saving IMO.

you are right. USPS can't they are a government agency. When you use fed ex or UPS you are using a private company and agree to their terms of shipping where you have no rights

you are correct. They dont need any reason. They can just open up anything they want at any time

A lot of gear in thailand atm is available in foil sachets.. These have an increased chance of passing detection - especially if you can get them labelled as "Thai Hot Sauce" or equivalent..

Send it via DHL and it's a much better chance of getting through without being opened.

If you send it via regular Thai mail it's 99.9% it will be opened to see if it's of any value to whoever and probably opened multiple times before leaving the country.

Hypothetically, in the USA if you are in trouble for having a package coming to your house is it more, less, or the same trouble if it came via USPS, or Fedex/UPS? I heard you will be in way more trouble if you package traveled thru USPS? Thanks

The can only do that on behalf of customs.
In this case, it must be reported to the consignee's attention.

Only customs can do, literally, whatever they want!

Fedex has alway opened packages if they suspect something is up. Iv'e had numerous packages opened and seized by fedex and UPS. Sux . I think they should just deliver and keep their mouths shut as they are a private carrier.

There is a dude in a law suit with UPS right now... He was a delivery man and opened a suspicious looking package that he was about to deliver and found a brick of marijuana in it.

UPS fired him on spot for opening the package and not delivering it. UPS told him he should have delivered the drugs as the contents of the package were not for them to worry about... just the integrity of their service.

matter a fact... this druggy kid I used to hang out was telling me how his boys operate. They said sending kilos through the mail is much safer than driving it across states.

I think Court wise its harder to defend when a Cop finds a kilo of weed in your back seat. vs. a kilo of weed arriving to your mail via post man. Although you'd have to be insane to mail it to yourself imo
