The worth of GI and GL

Why are some foods avoided by dieting bodybuilders in favor of other foods that have a worse GI and GL? At a quick glance bananas seem to have a superior GI and GL than Oatmeal. And why do some pros include white rice and white potatoes pre-contest....at least I thought that I had read on a couple of occasions that they do.

Bodybuilders seem to know their bodies very well, otherwise they would not be where they are. GI/GL/BMR/TDEE/all the other generic information that is used to point the general public in the right direction is relatively useless for people who are much beyond what their normal needs are. Many bodybuilders do use bananas. It just depends on how their body responds to each food. Further the steroid use is such that High Gi foods do not need to be avoided as much. for example, constant spikes in insulin levels can hurt muscle growth due to decreased growth hormone levels, however if you are running hgh year round, I don't see an issue.

It basically comes down to every persons individual need. many people who follow the gi and the likes would respond much better to other foods, but until they learn that the gi is a great place to start out.
