    Ipad... yay or nay?

so I sit here cruising the forums in my bed on my dinky little iPhone and think to myself, "self, it would be wickedly awesome to be enjoying this Internet experience on an ipad!"

but apple is notorious for releasing stuff before it's fully developed... Has anyone used an ipad or debated getting one? Is it worth the money?

    They are pretty sick!

They can do pretty much anything that a laptop can minus programming

They just aren't worth the price tag

If you get one only get the 3g one, but yeah the battery life is sick

    Perfect for car rides/flights

This is why they are great, they're not meant to be a primary computer ( but could function as one) I'd wait for the 2nd generation. if there are any bugs they will be ironed out by then and I'm banking it will have a camera that way you can video conference. the apps are sick, I love my iPhone but using some of the apps on a larger screen is great. As far as cost I'ts about as much as a decent cycle, either you have the money for toys or you dont.

    I do.

Like said above they are not meant to replace a computer. Its a nice toy to have around when laying on sofa watching boring tv wanting to surf/check emails etc. If you have the extra cash its a nice toy.

Its really cool but not worth the money by a long shot, maybe if you wait a year or two and the prices drop.

Totally agree. I was so against it because of the price but I saw how bad the b/f wanted it and I caved. Got it as a surprise and he loved it. Guess what makes it worth it, blahh

I got one for my mom, because she's kind of retarded when it comes to anything to do with technology, like most people (part of Apple's success). It's perfect for her. I myself am waiting for more tablet options (and there are PLENTY coming) to hit the market before making a decision on buying something like that.

I'm pretty sure I'd rather have a Linux tablet of some sort. There are a few on the market now but the offerings are rather lackluster.

Theres a few Android tablets already out, problem is they are on sub-par hardware which results in a clunky, not fun experience. There are quite a few tablets scheduled to be released in 2010 with all kinds of operating systems from all kinds of manufacturers.

Actually, the user experience differs greatly from OS to OS on smartphones. Not everyone wants an OS that looks like it was designed for a child, just like not everyone wants deep customization abilities without "voiding the warranty"

have you ever owned an iPhone? I know many people who have owned a balckberry and switched to iPhone... never met someone who got te Iphone and then switched for anything else. fiddling with yur buddies isn't the same as owning.

blackberry owners are very resistant to toss them out, for what ever reason I don't know, but for the people I have convinced they still are thanking me

One thing about the Blackberry's they are very tough. I've owned a few over the years and the only time one failed on me was from dropping it in the sink. I've dropped mine from over 10' onto concrete, Been stepped on more than once by my horses, Survived many a night in the snow in -40c. They are tried and tested. I also think alot of people are hesitant to switch because of the whole touch screen thing.

Again, different people have different needs/wants. The iPhone is not a one-size fits all, despite it being touted as such. If you think the iPhone is perfect for you, awesome. I have an iPhone 3G, there are things I like about it and things I don't like about it. If I had the money, I'd go get a Nexus One right now.

I've also spent years hacking/messing with Windows Mobile phones. I'm in the process of getting deeper into Linux and the Android OS. I think it's great that I can screw something up really bad on a WM phone and just reinstall Windows and start from scratch. I don't need to go to some store and talk to some "genius" about how I just voided my warranty by changing software and to go fk myself.

That said Windows Mobile has a lot of problems, they say Windows Phone 7 will change that, we'll see. I've also yet to use Android 2.2 (Froyo), but it's supposed to be pretty sweet. My girlfriends phone is scheduled to get updated with it, and I'm eager to see what changes/improvements they have made.

I think the iPad is great for one reason. It has forced the industry as a whole to up their game. Until the iPad no one gave a **** about tablets and the tablets that were/are out are/were garbage. There's a lot coming in the next year, and these companies are out to impress.

    This is interesting...

AT&T bug discloses iPad owners' email addresses
A Web glitch let hackers download 114,000 email addresses; issue fixed earlier this week

actually that's a very valid point about people being standoff-ish with touchscreens
