just as a matter of interest, where do you folks stand on protein powders, con or nessecary?

I find that they greatly help me recover and gain muscle mass, if used properly. Both casein and whey.
I like whey for post workout and casein before bed. The only other time i take shakes rather than meals is if i cant get to solid food. Which happens sometimes but i dont prefer them.
Sometimes i prefer solid food pre bed also but the casein is easier. I usually have it with a scoop of natty pb
It cant be a con it is simply a way to increase protein intake without added claories..
Once again its a supplement to add to your diet not to use as food..
Nothing more nothing less..
there neccessary for me... if im working for 5 hrs straight and and the boss doesnt let me eat, i have no choice but to have a shake and pretend its water.
you gota do what you gota do.
Your boss is a cocksucker...
Smokers are aloud cigarette breaks..
If i want to eat something its my right...
This is so true. The place I work now I don't ever have this issue, but places in the past this kind of stuff happened to me. I wasn't allowed to take a break for X reason, but for some reason if you were a smoker (ever under age smoker in some cases), you could take 3-5+ 5-minute breaks to smoke throughout the day. If you add that up it's 15-25 minutes they get extra to not work? But because they made a choice to smoke? Terrible.
Protein is 4 calories per gram. Period.
40g of protein via whey has no less calories than a properly trimmed 6 oz. serving of chicken breast, a couple tilapia filets, or 2 drained cans of chunk light tuna. Not hating, I use shakes - just tired of hearing this logic as an advantage to them.
The real key here, as mentioned, is PWO recovery and a convenient slow-digesting protein source in the case of casein.
