I have to give away my dog this morning, sucks

This sucks, but I have to do it. I have a Cane Corso Italian Mastiff, a blue brindle. Probably one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen, powerful, muscular, athletic. But here is where I screwed up. I got the dog first, and then my son came along. After my son was here my wife and I just didn't have time to take with the dog. I started working a 2nd job to keep us afloat on bills, and she is busy watching my son. So the dog has been neglected alot. But, the biggest problem is I cant have him around my son at all. My kid is scared to death of him, and the dog is so big and muscular that he would hurt somebody just playing with them. He has ate up a bunch of things in the yard. he's ruined my wooden deck, ate some HVAC ductwork out from under the house, ate the pullchord off my lawnmower, knocked over the grill and ruined that, ruined parts of the fence from where he's pulled it apart. He just ate the seat off my daughters bike yesterday. I bought a chain link kennel and he ruined that a few months ago. I know much of this is my fault and not the dogs. I feel horrible, I bought the dog to guard my house because I wanted my family to be safe when I wasn't home. But looking back, I should have purchased the puppy AFTER my son was here, not before. But anyways, its hard giving away something like this. I would have sold him, but I dont even care about making $$ off him, I'd rtaher have him go to a nice home. A friend who owns a dog training school is taking him from me. He will use him as a demo dog after he trains him. I know he'll be well taken care of and be able to interact with other dogs as well. I hate to get rid of the dog, but I saw how frightened my kid was the other day and I said thats it. It's not worth all of this. Just ranting

poor dog...i feel bad for dogs in this situation. So many dogs out there who have horrible habbits from owners who don't have real time to spend on them or train them.

Brother, ur not telling me anything I dont know. The dog was doing fine until my son came along, but sometimes things happen and life changes direction a little. I feel bad too, thats why I gave him to somebody who had more time to spend with him than I did. Yes, I feel terrible, but I cannot quit my p/t job to spend time w/ the dog, when my family needs me working more.

And he's a Purple Ribbon UKC Razor's Edge Blue Brindle Pitbull.. *dealing with double broken leg scenario right now* but when he's full grown he's gonna be a massive muscular dog.. (5mon 43lbs. already) and my daughter is already scared of him.. I can only imagine what's gonna happen in a year when he's 110lbs. Guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it...

Yes, I read ur thread about your dog and I'm sorry to hear it. But with me, seeing my kids frightened reaction hurt me more than giving the dog away. Dont get me wrong, it was a hard pill to swallow

There is 2 schools of thought to this and I actually got into a small arguement with my brother cause our cousin is giving his beloved pitt away for similar reasons. Mainly because him and his wife work fulltime jobs and are just never home to take care of it.

But my brother thinks its wrong to do, and that my cousin is a pvssy for just giving up on his dog like that. The thing is, my brother neglects his dog more then anyone I know cause hes a workaholic as well, actually worse then my cousin. And I told him "if anyone should be giving their dog away its you". Naturally he got angry, and we got into an argument about it.

He thinks, that no matter what, its just a puss move to do.
The fact is, hes wrong. Everyone has their own criteria for what exactly meets "neglect", but if you have to ask yourself if you're neglecting your pet, chances are you are. And as bad as it sucks (its like giving away a family member almost) it IS ultimately a larger sign of love then keeping the dog imo.

Things change, and you do everything you can to avoid it, but sometimes logistically you can't. The only thing YOU need to remind yourself, is that is truely is for the best. I'm sure thats why you decided to give him away in the first place, but dont forget it and you will be alright bro. G/luck!

If the dogs not agressive towards your child you should teach yor son to get over his fear,he's still very young if your consistant i think everything will work out ok. i dont think this is fair to the dog to ship him off because your kids scared. infact i think your totally wrong to do this.

I know how hard it is giving up a puppy... you got to like that its going to you trainer friend so not only will he be better mannered, but well cared for. Thats the best situation that could have come out of this...
