Needles?

Can anyone please help convert the numbers? Over here we talk in millimeters. I usually use 0.8millimeter*40millimeter needles. You guys are talking about 20-21-22-23 gauge... I think I got as far as that the smaller the number the thicker the needle, Am I right??

You've got the right picture, Swedeboy. The first number is the gauge, and the second number is the length of the needle.

Let's briefly address length: 1 mm = 0.04 inches. Therefore, the example you used of a 0.8*40 mm needle means that the needle's length is 1.6 inches (or 40*0.04 - for Americans, that's 40x0.04). That would be similar to the 1-1/2" long needles we use in the U.S. and Canada.

As far as gauge, you're correct: The smaller the gauge, the thicker the needle. Here is the basic conversion chart for the most common needles used to inject AS:

18 gauge = 1.2446 mm
19 gauge = 1.0688 mm
20 gauge = 0.8890 mm
21 gauge = 0.8128 mm
22 gauge = 0.7112 mm
23 gauge = 0.6350 mm
24 gauge = 0.5588 mm
25 gauge = 0.5080 mm
26 gauge = 0.4572 mm
27 gauge = 0.4064 mm

Thus, in the U.S. and Canada, we generally use 18-20 gauge needles to draw oil-based solutions and 22-23 gauge needles to inject them, and we use 25 gauge needles to draw and inject water-based solutions except for insulin, for which higher gauge (smaller) needles are used. In terms of length, for glute injections we use 80 mm needles (1-1/2 inches here), and for delt and quad injections we use 25 mm needles (1 inch).

So you guys use 22-23 gouge to inject (oil). According to the convertion I only got one thing to say. You guys are really . As I said I use 0.8millimeter and that's not on the list, if it was it should be someting like a 30gauge. Are you whales or am I a Pu--y? (girls, please forgive me for the badly chosen word. Don't want to offend anybody)

TNT I don't think that your Gauge to mm. conversions are correct.
I lived in Europe for 14 years and I know the metric system perfectly. I know the Gauge system pretty good too. I don't know the exact conversion, but yours looks way off.
Looking at your conversion for 18 gauge= 3.7338 mm, DAMN MAN
do you know how big that is. That's too big for a horse LOL

Genuine and Swedeboy, you guys are absolutely correct - a major gaffe on my part.

I used a chart titled Stub's Needle Gauge Sizes which is used in diagnostic radiology, and includes conversions from gauges to inches, millimeters, and size (an esoteric method rarely used). Unfortunately, I copied the wrong column - sizes instead of gauge-to-mm conversions.

I've changed my original post to reflect the correct numbers, and stand humbled before you all. The chart, which is U.S. based, is much closer to Swedeboy's correct numbers. Ah, well, so much for my perfect image . . . I can now return to being a dumb weight jock.
