Question regarding my wife...maybe a question for the women.

Okay, so the wife got a REALLY sharp pain in her right side Tuesday afternoon. I get home from work and I tell her you might want to go to the ER it might be your appendix. She lays there up until its time to go to bed and its worse, so she goes. They start test, I take the kids to my aunt's house and head to the ER to meet her. Come to find out she has a cyst on her right ovary, 7cm big. So they decide surgery will be the best idea. So at 9:00 AM Wednesday she goes into surgery. Well the cyst was so large it had basically encased the ovary and they had to take her right ovary. Does this mean she will now have to be on hormones or is she okay since she still has the left ovary?

By the way she is fine and resting in the bed. They say she should be okay by the weekend, but a couple of weeks until she is fully healed in the female area.

Im no doctor but i recon she would be fine. i had a friend that only had one nut and he turned out fine, didnt take any chems either.

I don't know either; sounds like her other ovary will carry the load. They have nice bio identical protocols for women now as well; think of the upside of that NSM

geeez thats scarey..Im glad she cought it fast and had coverage to fix it fast. Lucky lady to have such a good hubby worry and look out for her, glad she is doing ok.
as for the med stuff, I would totaly ask your Dr to clearify, cuz she may have other stuff going on that we/ you may be unawear of, that may effect hormons ect.
like metapause / medications ect.. but some docs dont like talking horm theripy (from my understanding) so a specialist maybe in order, at least just to get base testes to see where she is at IMO ...some virtual flowers for her

She goes back for sure in 2 weeks to the gynocologist and I will have her ask and make sure.

Since both ovaries produce the majority of her sex hormones and now she has only 1 ovary it stands to reason she will need/want to start supplementing with hormones. The BEST appraoch (when she's feeling better) is go to an anti-aging doctor who knows about hormones etc. A standard medical doctor will not know what to do with her. Doctors are not trained in medical school about this and the ones who know a little bit about this would typically give someone like your wife just Estradiol - the enlightened physician knows you MUST always give Estriol with Estradiol AND Progesterone with Estrogen - NEVER just Estgrogen by itself which is what a lot of standard care docs do with hormones.

She should get all her hormone levels tested - Pregnenolone; DHEA-S; Free and Total Testosterone; Estradiol; Progesterone and if you guys are wanting children then LH and FSH. See what her levels are and also assess any symptoms. If she had a cyst I would not be surprised at all if she were deficient in Progesterone, as many women are.

I could go on but I'll leave it here. LMK if you have any q's.

Would start with VMAAG's info and be your wifes advocate with the Drs....most do not want to go outside the normal rubber stamped procedures allowed by healthcare providers....you asked for and got the skinny from a woman who certainly seems to know wtf she is talking about. Very best to your Mrs.

Thanks VMAAG. We do not want to have any more children so that is not a problem there. I was thinking the same thing about her losing one of her ovaries. Wouldn't that be like a guy losing a testicle? I would think that if I lost a testicle my testosterone would drop. Hence a woman losing an ovary would make things drop.

Yes exactly. This should not be taken lightly. This is her womanhood. If she's now producing only 1/2 of what she was that's going to effect EVERYTHING. Her mood, her weight, her sex drive etc. When you get her blood test results back post them and I'll give you some insight from an anti-aging perspective. The easiest thing she can do right this very moment is to drink enough water. Most people do not take in their 8-10 glasses a day and are shocked at how much better they feel when they do. Also assuming she'll be going in for blood tests also include Vitamin D. And the correct vitamin D test is the "25-hydroxyvitamin D." Keep me posted. Hope she is feeling better.

Hopefully she is using Bi-est (2 estrogens) as opposed to a patch that only provides Estradiol and also includes Progesterone and Testosterone. Progesterone keeps Estrogen in check - estrogen has many, many benefits but without Progesterone to "keep it in line" it can "run amuck" so to speak putting a woman at risk. And Estriol is a very protective estrogen that works in a similar fashion HOWEVER they are ALL needed including Testostoerone. Having them all provides balance and balance equals a happy woman. Is it going to be a problem that she never had blood work done previously to check her hormones? The only thing we will be able to go on from here is the blood work results now....after the surgery. So really we don't have a baseline.

I dont think it will be a problem, it would be nice to have a baseline but as long as the Dr can bring her into the normal range for all her hormone levels she should be good.
