    Can Not handle Carbs

I'm 44yo 5'6'' 198lbs at about 18% bf. Last tesy was BodPod and was 20% but I was 212lbs. I have worked hard over the last 2 years in the gym and the kitchen. I did a complete Paleo approach and then moved to do consulting with some really good guys. I would hang in the 205-210 range and just look puffy when I was eating even "good" carbs...yams, rice, oats ect. I don't eat fries and pizza and am not a drinker. My current plan has me leaner than I have been in a few years and is 45 fat 45-50 pro and under 5% carbs. I eat only green leafy veg. for carbs on days 1-5 and on day 6 eat as many carbs as I can. I like it and it is easy, but my strength and recovery are not great. Suffer some setbacks for leaness? When I was on consult I was doing carbs at 50/50/100/150 with 2-3 300g carb days a month. I'm eating 220g protein now. Any help would be great!

Well, one things for sure. Man can't live off protein alone and that kinda looks like what you're doing w/the exception of that one day. I like your first plan better w/the yams, rice and oats. But i'm really not qualified enough in this area to give you exact amounts of carbs that i think you should have. your protein is good though.
What are your goals and what weight would you like to maintain?

We'll bump this to the top and wait for the pros to come aboard and give you their opinion.

    Good Luck.

GB will hopefully chime in soon. he can tell how to cycle your carbs, he did it with great success. twist and stem are some others who know about this but i think twist has been busy with that thing called life.

write up a typical daily diet diet with macros for each food stuff and meal and totals for the day, this will help identify the problem.

Some people are just very carb sensitive by nature. I'm teetering on that myself. However, i'm curious as to how long you ran the Paleo diet? It's possible that you were carb sensitive to begin with, and running the paleo diet only added to this 'problem'.

I'll await your answer and/or more info before I go any further with this theory, but that's what i'm thinking right now.

    Typical day is 2250 calories. 200g protein/24g carb/110g fat
carbs are veg source and some black beans, little brown rice and I either eat carbs early of PWO. The "no carb" Paleo/Zone jacked up my metabolism and I was "skinny fat" 198-202lbs. Weak as piss and fat gut. I went to work in the gym and switched from conditioning/cardio to heavy (5-3-1 SS ect) and prolwer/sprints/bodyweight stuff and upped protein (from 80g to 250g) and carbs from 0g to 150-300g) I got stronger, recovered well and was a FAT FAT 220lbs eating clean...whey+water+oats fish chicked ect. Over pat few months dumped carbs for fat and have taked major bloat off and taked fat off face and gut..multiple inches on navel. I'm not so weak that I'm ashamed, but worried I will not be able to gain strength. I'm not adverse to eating carbs, but they just bloated the shit out of me...It was like a bad Decca/Test bloat..like a tick on a dog too long. Any ideas?

with those numbers you just posted and cardio 45mins-60mins 5x a week i dont see why you wouldnt lose 1.5-2lbs a week. maybe you should look at your food sources or other things you may not be seeing as calories but really they are

you could also lower your fat intaketo like 70 or 80 grams

also i wouldnt worry about how much you can lift right now... ive lost so much strength cutting down its not funny but i look 100x better. worry about cutting your fat. strength will come later unless you care more about strength then leaness. but to be serious with people like us lean and strong dont really go together

with how you eating you should have 1 day probably sunday where you eat protein and carbs your first few meals. stay away from fats in these meals. fill up but dont over do it. i like pancakes and syrup good example of carbs with little or no fat and taste amazing

Did you ever consider that you may simply be overestimating your caloric requirements?

When I'm not making progress, that's the first variable I look at. That and/or a cardio increase, or decrease depending on the goal.

Those will have a greater overall impact than macro manipulation.

I think my fat is high many days and I can find better (leaner) protein sources. When I go back over my log I see that on many days my Calories are in the 1800 range and I know this isn't good. BodPod put caloric needs at 2400-2700. The inconsistency is an issu and sleep is also one. I own a small business and pack and plan, but I hit spots where I'm going too long without food. This week I'm going to drop some fat and keep carbs PWO only and see if I can make some progress. 214-198 from Oct. 1 to today isn't bad. Thanks for tips.
