    brown rice vs vegetables, fiber

does brown rice have the same type of fiber as vegetables and is it just as effective as vegetables are for regularity ?

i have digestion issues and my doc said i need to go onto a high fiber diet, its been 2 years since ive trained/ eating right so im looking to get back into it and have to structure my diet accordingly in terms of incorporating at LEAST 40 grams of fiber a day

any other suggestions in terms of what kind of carbs have high fiber in them that i could also incorporate into my diet?

    thanks.

Green veggies, some fruits, and whole grains are all good sources. As suggested above, look into supplementing additional fiber to make meeting your requirement easier.

ps - it's not the greatest diet food as it contains a fair amount of sugar, but Kashi Go Lean! makes a very high fiber cereal... I believe a serving is 20g carbs with 10 of those grams being fiber.

and if that does't work, you can always do what i do....

....psyllium husk fiber. I buy bulk, orange flavor, sugar free. 2lbs for $8 at Walmart. will clean you out like a whistle. wouldn't recommend blowing that whistle though.... =)

Also, look for foods that contain bran. Bran is particularly rich in dietary fiber and essential fatty acids and contains significant quantities of starch, protein, vitamins and dietary minerals. The quest for fiber should be one of the easiest dietary supplementation requirements you'll ever come across, especially considering how popular it is in food marketing these days.
