almost 3 years off training... now im small, weak and depressed

i just turned 21 and i have not been training consistently since the fall of 2009.. it was one of those things where i said i was gonna take a couple days off of training and it evolved into almost 3 years. i mean i would workout for like a month here and there but i would have no motivation because of how weak and small i was..

well its reached a breaking point and im gonna force myself to get back into the gym and stick with it

before this all started i was 6'0 210 and around 13% bodyfat

now i am 6'1 195.. i dont know my body fat% now but i look just skinny and at the same time fat? like im flabby or something lol idk but its horrible

so my question is if i start dieting hard and training hard how long before muscle memory kicks in and i start to look like how i used to back then? i know its gonna take awhile i dont mean how long before i look like a carbon copy of my previous self but noticeably better?

You shouldn't have to "force" urself to go to the gym, you should be looking forward to every workout but at the same time fearing it. If you see it as a chore then you will be on and off forever with no real progress

Been there Bud......Best advice from me is you have to plan and have goals, weekly, monthly, and I even have yearly ones.....One of the best motivations you can have is PR's (personal records) in different max effort lifts however it may be. One week I may max front squat and the next I may do deficit pulls. I have like 25+ for my lower and upper body and by the time I come back to the original one I started with months ago I shattered it by 20+ lbs giving me constant results year round. Not saying you have to do it this way but you have to find out what keeps you driving (hope you see where im going with this). IMO

dont let yourself sink too far into the dumps. I just went through one hell of a shitty year and went from the best shape of my life to a fat slob. Check out my pics in the members transformation section. 2 months and you can turn things right around. First step is getting back into the gym. Within a few workouts your mindset changes 180 degrees and you are ready for anything. Then clean up your eating and you're on your way to success

Get back in the gym. Each day in the gym is a day closer to your goal.

Honestly if you work your ass off depending on how bad off you are 30 days will have people dropping compliments about whoa you look different. I'd say it takes about 90 days to get the women-want-to-f-me looks.

x2, stop looking at it like a job or something you are dreading. Make it a life style, enjoy it or forget it. It wont happen over night, look for the LONG term, not a few months or even a year.

I have not been able to lift properly or seriously for almost a year due to injury and I miss it and have since day one. I still do what I can but it's pathetic at best for now but I know Ill be able to again.

Muscle memory is great. It wont be long before you start pumping up and see change like a month or two but it takes a while to get back to where you were before. Dont rush it or you may injure yourself and have another set back.

    Good luck
