    Whats your opinion ?

I usually eat healthy...and watch my carb intake (even try to cycle them once in awhile)...but sometimes, you gotta take a break and cheat.

    Dats rite!

What's your opinion of the following foods that people commonly put down.

    WHITE BREAD-
PROS: it taste good...and is fun to eat...especially toasted french bread (with your main Entree).
CONS: Supposedly it turns to sugar immediately, and has no nutritionally value.

    ICE CREAM
PROS: it taste GREAT...fun to eat...and the chicks are always up for a run to Coldstone. I eat it when i'm in the mood...and never by itself. Always for desert (after that Thick Steak and Baked Potato).
CONS: No nutritional value and is LOADED with sugar.

    BEER
PROS: i enjoy a glass of wine or a cold beer...just about every-night (only one-half, or sometimes a whole one). I usually have it with diner and never drink it by itself (well maybe once in a while).
CONS: Carbs, Calories, turns to sugar almost immediately (which can be good if you are low on energy).

    POTATOES
PROS: I like baked potatoes with my steak, and i like them with sour cream. Taste Great...and i sometimes brown them in the pan for a little crisp.
CONS: Can be loaded with Cals...not to mention the carbs.

    RED MEAT
PROS: Taste great (jesus...this is getting to be redundant)...and loaded with protein. I usually eat lean meat with low fat.
CONS: Supposed to be bad for your heart, high in cholesterol, and other issues such as saturated fat (from cooking), etc.

Would love to hear some constructive input on the above mentioned foods. Don't forget to give a positive too (if you can).

    thanks!

if your gonna cheat then cheat, one poor meal here and there is absolutly fine.

i stay from whitebread and ice cream always, once in two months tops

i dont think beer is a big deal, i have a couple every other week. about 150cals each and only 13g of carbs not a big deal. nat as bad as most fruits

i prefer yam over potatoe so this is no problem for me

i think red meat is fine. if you are really concerned put it on the BBQ, this will reduce the fats and cholestrol, I eat red meat almost everyday when i have access to a BBQ

one or two bad meals a month aint nothing...

....and it really depends on what your goals are. I'm not a competitor, so I'm a little looser than I imagine most here are.

I won't eat white bread or ice cream

beers OK once in a while

    i avoid potatoes unless a yam/sweet

And I eat alot of red meat.

but then i'm 15% ish BF% right now too.

For some (maybe most) 4 cheat meals per month is acceptable. Depends wat ur goals are.. If 10% id say no prob.. 6-8% mite make it difficult..

White bread: dont eat but like it
Ice cream: dont eat but love it
Beer: dont drink cuz i love it too much
Potatoes: have baked ore ida fries with cheat meal fairly often
    Red meat: eat it everyday..

Occasionally i have all of the above (except the beer).. Everyone is difft.. The key is figuring out wat u can get away with and then dont go beyond it ...

    Thanks dudes...

I think White Bread has been promoted as being the Devil's work.

I don't think its as bad as promoted...but i guess it depends on the individual. Some say they gain a ton-of-fat from white bread.

I personally think that WHEAT BREAD is bad. A lot of wheat products have gluten, which is used to make the bread rise. However, there are many who have are allergic reaction to Wheat.

Gluten poisoning...linked to Krohns disease and colitis.

maybe so, bbut i dont eat spot on either. right now, not charting my meals, no idea how many cals/day i consume, don't know my macros.

plus i just drank a glass of juice
and i will sometimes eat whole grain bread
and yesterday, i ran out of brown rice so used white instead

like i said, not real super clean. but the deal is i do know when what i eat is not ideal.

White bread; the thing about white bread (or any bread) is that the yeast will stay in your system for 3-5 days. It will bloat you to some extent, but if you are happy with that then keep eating it. White bread will digest very quickly and will cause an insulin spike depending on how much you eat.

Ice-cream; it will digest quickly too. Its not as bad as other deserts like cake, donuts etc, but again its up to you and what your goals are.

Beer; not very calorie dense but it does contain alcohol which will convert some of your testosterone to estrogen

White potato; yams/sweet potato is obviously a better choice but white potato isn't terrible. It is much less calorie dense compared to pasta and white rice but again, it will break digest much more easily as compared to a good complex carb. Stuffing it with sour cream, fatty meats (bacon etc) and cheese isn't good at all. Its fine for a cheat meal but creamy/cheesy foods make me feel ill so I never go near any of that stuff (except pizza, don't judge me lol)

Red meat; great source of iron and if its organic its a great source of CLA. I like kangaroo meat because its very lean (<2% fat) and I don't have to prepare it, just out of its packaging and straight onto the pan. I usually eat about 150-200gm every day. However, excessive consumption of red meat as been linked to colon cancer so I wouldn't eat anymore than one serving a day. I'm not sure if that study was about lean, fresh red meat or processed bullshit, but either way I'm not taking any chances

No thanks. I find whole grain food much more 'fun' to eat. I'd go with a bowl of oats or a really good piece of bread full of grains and nuts before boring white bread any day.

Not sure what the debate is. Ice cream is one of the best 'guilty' foods on earth. However, it has no place in a bodybuilding diet if you're serious (with the exception of a cheat meal)

Again, no place in a strict diet. I love beer and drinking in general as much as the next drunk... err guy! But I want to be ripped for summer, so I have to deny myself... temporarily. At parties, etc. I will let loose.

Solid food for bodybuilding. Fit them into your macros and you can't go wrong.

No cons as long as it's eaten moderately, i.e. every meal every day can't be red meat. We need saturated fat as part of our diet; we'd be dead if we didn't have some. Red meat is naturally high in creatine and protein, and is one of if not THE slowest digesting protein sources available. Perfect for an evening meal - it ensures a steady supply of amino's all throughout the night while you sleep (no, you will NOT go catabolic if you skip your bedtime shake, lmao!)
