Is there a noticeable nutritional difference between instant oatmeal vs. steel cut? I'm not referring to the prepackaged/sugary garbage, just the giant tub of unflavored instant oatmeal. I'm assuming the difference is that it's probably precooked? Now, don't just say, the steel cut is better, if you think so, tell me why. I don't care about flavor, it's just much quicker and easier to make the instant, vs boiling the other stuff for forever. I know this may be splitting hairs, but if I'm gonna try to eat as much of the stuff as you guys seem to be recommending, I wanna make sure I'm doing it right. I don't know that I have time to boil the steel cut stuff everyday, but I can go into work and use the coffee machine to put hot water into the instant and eat it right away.
Also, would adding wheat germ to oatmeal in the morning be a good idea? I've always heard the wheat germ is super-nutritious, but it sounds like eating to body build is different and you're more concerned about things like insulan spikes and gly***ic levels and stuff. Everyone bashes wheat because some people are allergic to glutin, but I thought wheat germ was really good. Any thoughts?
