How bad would it be if I got it? I know males are just carriers but is it something that would really b a big deal? Also if I use a condom what are my chances of getting it?
I've been talking to this girl for a few weeks now and we started messing around and she told me she has hpv so we stopped. I may already have hpv tho because my ex had cervical pre-cancer and that was more than likely caused by hpv

It said there's a vaccine. Maybe I'll go to the doctor tomorrow and see if I can get it. It seems like they would be willing to give it to me if I tell them I'm dating someone with hpv

men can get it too. If you're "riding a covered wagon" (aka uncircumcised) you are more likely to get HPV and then dick cancer.

HPV is way more indepth then that.
HPV has hundreds of different strains....
you can have the strain that causes regular warts (anyone who has warts... has some form of HPV)
or the one that causes genital warts
or a few other strains that wont have any affect on you at all
its a virus... you cant get rid of it.
iin women it can increase risk of cervical cancer
in men it can have some adverse affects but it usually doesnt.
there is some sort of vaccine (only for women from what ive heard) that can protect against SOME of the Strains.

thanx for all the info dsm. From what I'm reading it seems like I'm gonna get it one day anyway if I don't already have it so I might aswell rap it up and dive in. I am circumsized so that's a plus.
She said she has the type that causes cervical cancer and she goes for regular checkups to make sure everythings normal. We were laying in bed and she stopped us messing around and brought up the STD thing and so many other horrible things popped in my head before she said hpv. Thanks again for all the help everyone. Condoms will not protect from HPV, (there are several strands) it is also NOT curable. The difference is treatment is that some people can "control" it and may not have anymore outbreaks. In a man this is not a big concern other than having warts. You can have these removed and be fine. This is a really big deal to a woman though as if inside they can lead to cervical cancer. It is a scary thought but the rule of thumb is that if you have ever had any type of sexual encounter you probably already have the HPV virus. This doesn't mean that it will show though.
