What causes an abscess?

You'd think after a few years of this I'd know how to inject properly!

So I don't know if it's really an abscess, just a small lump that's about as painful as a bruise. I can kind of see it in the mirror (on my ass) but that might be just because I know it's there. It can be felt, though. But it's not red or hot or too painful.

So is stuff like that caused by contaminated gear, or a bad injection procedure? I've injected this same gear into my delts and no weirdness, so I don't think it's contaminated. Used a new needle and all that.

Maybe this is why people try to get others to inject them in the ass.

When you say small lump you mean what? Pea size? If the gear was injected to fast it may have pushed the facia out and caused a lump...it should go away within a week as the gear gets absorbed! If it increases insize or starts to get really read and (sometimes) hot. Get to a Doc.

Could be trauma to the muscle tissue. Injected too fast, moved the needle too much.

When did you inject this and when did symptoms occur?

Off topic: On the renal infection you had a while back did you use lasix or were your estrogen levels low for a long time?

Gear was Masteron and Winstrol, 1/2 cc of each in the same syringe - 23ga 1 in. Before I had always used a 25ga 1.5 in but it took too long to draw up.

The lump is maybe the size of a quarter. I noticed it the next day; this was maybe 4 days ago.

Re the kidney infection: I didn't use Lasix, but I used Aldactone for 2 weeks before the contest. Never had my estrogen levels tested but I had been taking anti-e's too (Nolvadex and Arimidex). None of that now.

So an abscess is only caused by an infection, not bad injection technique? I can't think of any reason it would have gotten infected; I use alcohol swabs and clean needles and wash up and all that. Not a surgically sterile environment but it's not like I'm smearing poop everywhere before I start either.

An abscess is a tender mass generally surrounded by a colored area from pink to deep red. Abscesses are often easy to feel by touching. The middle of an abscess is full of pus and debris. Unlike other infections, antibiotics alone will not usually cure an abscess. In general an abscess must open and drain in order for it to improve. Sometimes draining occurs on its own, but generally it must be opened by a doctor in a procedure called incision and drainage (I&D).

Yes, an abscess is caused by bacteria, most commonly, Staphylococcus aureus and streptococci (staph infections can become very serious). In the presence of this infection, your immune system responds by sending white blood cells to the infected area resulting in edema and necrosis which produces a cavity under the skin. The cavity fills with white blood cells, necrotic tissue, and the foreign bacteria.

Likely sources of bacteria: on the skin, a non sterile needle, in your gear. The latter is why many vets recommend auto calving gear before using it.

Something occurred to me...the Winstrol was in amps, and some of them were a lot harder to break than others. Maybe a few of them were bad?

I hate Winstrol. It's gross, it's gloppy and smells bad, and I'm only using it to use it up before the other gear I ordered gets in! Never using it again!

Very possible. It's impossible to know how sterile the production environments are. If I had to guess, I'd say most infections/abscesses are caused more often by infected gear and not sterilization practices among users - well, that's my hope as well!

Lets dbl check and make sure the sky isn't falling Chicken Little It's possible you are confusing an infected abscess with a lump or knot. This could be the result of injection technique or the gear "knotting up".

My question would still be...is it getting better or worse? If it IS growing you could try to lance it and drain it with a 23G then grab some antibiotics..I'd hold off a bit though and see what it does.
