What industry do you work in?

After reading on this board for a few months I've been amazed to see how many people work crazy hours and in all different industries that seem to make it difficult for them to find time to workout and keep themselves physically fit. I always hear people say (not here) that there job doesn't give them the convienence of working out.

I thought it would be interesting to learn what all you guys do. For the sake of privacy it doesn't have to be an exact place - just the industry and hours you work. I would love to tell people that I know of Doctors, lawyers, retailers, iron workers, cow milkers, etc that work crazy hours and still find the time to stay fit.

    I'm pretty lucky these days.

I own a retail store and usally work 4-5 days a week and about 5 hrs a day.

you must have good staff, most business owners are never done working. when i did accountancy from home and ran my PT business i was doing up to 16hrs a day, granted it was only over 5days but still, it was a push

    Healthcare..... and the following, 7am to 7pm, or 7am to 11pm....sometimes 3pm to 7am....

P.S.- also if the turnaround times are too short, sometimes sleep at the hospital in on-call rooms...or if there is a snowstorm or some other state of Emergency, stay at the hospital for up to 24-36 hours...you're mandated by the state to get some hours of sleep inbetween that though...

I actually saw your "Nightshift" post which is what prompted me to start this thread. If people can work odd hours, long hours, and switch up between days and nights then well....there's no excuse for not finding the time. IMO it boils down to laziness.

Given there's always an exception out there...single mom's and such, but for the most part its all an excuse for being lazy.

I'm a project engineer.. Build alot of the bridges that u guys drive on. I spend monday through Friday traveling along the east coast. I hate the traveling, and it does make it alot more difficult to have a spot on diet and training. It takes commitment. TO BE A BEAST, U GOTTA TRAIN LIKE A BEAST!

I'm traveling at least 4 days a week for an airline. VERY hard on the diet. The people I work with think I'm crazy because all I do on trips is eat, sleep and workout.

Quite the opposite...Only have to work 3 - 12 hour shifts per week. And also required to work 24 hours of weekend time (which counts towards your total for the week)... So, I could work Monday, then Saturday&Sunday... and so on, any arrangement of 3 days you want. And its quite possible to hit the gym after a 12 hour shift if its 7a-7pm...But not so with 16 hour shifts, your dead for a day and a half after that shit..........

I was a medic for 10 years(er and out in the field) before doing the tennis profession. I mainly teach and coach these days but still travel to play some tournaments. I built a court in my backyard so all coaching and training is done at my home. Best part, its an all cash operation.

Graphic design and marketing. I own a small design firm. Work 8 - 10 hours a day normally, but as many as needed when really busy.

I own a second "hobby" business that designs and sells t-shirts to the automotive enthusiast market. Just getting that business re-started next year. Hopefully that will become my primary business in the next few years. Need to get into stores and pick up some distributors once I have a larger line.

Refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic. Meant to work 40 hour weeks but never happens. Times are always up and down. Just got to live with it. Still make sure I train 5 days a week though! Coming into summer now work gets a lot busier but I still manage...

Up until last week was the General Manager of a large restaurant. Worked crazy hours and lots of them. The diet was the rough part. Working out was looked forward to as a way to forget what happened at work before I headed home to the family. That is ultimately what I was fired for was putting family first and not "putting out fires" while I was at home like I did before I had my daughter. I'm currently looking for work out of restaurants so I can have that family time though.

I'm a commercial director. If I'm in preproduction or post I have pretty flexible hours and get my workouts in. If I'm in production pretty much all other life ceases to exist. Might be why I'm divorced too.

Entertainment Industry. I'm an Assistant Editor. Usually work 10 hour days but when under tight deadlines can be 14-18 hour days sometimes. It's hard to work out when you are working that much. Luckily it's mostly the 10 hours though.
