That's not the actual picture but its similar. It's in my knee. I hit myself with a small axe
it's about 1 inch tall and 1/2 and inch wide but pretty deep you can see small things floating inside. You can see the inside of my knee. Now can I treat it at home or do I need to get stitches? Cause I'm scared of stitches and would rather not get them if possible.

Hey man, be a man ! and get that stitched. Keep it on ice for the swelling so they can stitch or staple it. Use hydrogen peroxide, not alcohol. It's in a bad spot you say. ....crazy OLD mike. now old man mike here knows. Ya gotta get it stitched and flushed. Take this old man's advice......not so crazy mike

PS: you have to tell us now, just how old are you, come on ?............

You other members kill me...What a bunch of wimps. He will probably be fine.

The worse thing that could happen in a situation like this is that you could have penetrated the joint capsule and you could get an infection inside the joint, then since it would not be easy to reconize due to the encapsulation could go undetected for a few weeks till you started loosing range of motion and they had to open up the knee to try to save it which would most likely be successful and they probably would not have to amputate above the knee.

OK maybe you guys are right....I guess he should see a doctor ;-)

Yes you need stitches more than likely and would be best to get them, can you survive with out them? yes, probably, but why not stop acting like a ***** and take care of your business.

If you really dont want to go to the doctor then like said, clean it really good. If it stops bleeding I would use supper glue to hold it together. Less chance of scaring and band-aids with a wrap. I would also get some SILVADENE (silver sulfadiazine) cream. You can find it on amazon and it helps a LOT with stooping infection. A light coat of iodine is helpful also but be careful. I put it on to strong once and it peeled the skin. Make it a light coat.

Now for some comparison, that's not a cut, this is a cut. It's of 6yr old daughter after she put her hand through a single pane glass window pushing on a door to open it at the neighbors. She never cried until they gave her shots to numb it. It also cut 3 tendons clean off and ran next to the main artery. Still plenty of blood but due to me showing her just 2 days prior how to stop bleeding by putting pressure on a cut and wrapping it ASAP because I got a small cut (compared to hers) she knew what to do immediately.

I had one of those old disposable camersa in the glove box of my car so after getting her to the hospital I took pictures to document it.

Use super glue and you have less chance of scaring. It was invented to close up wounds on the battle field. That's why it sticks to skin so well.

How exactly would I do it? Add super glue to the edges of the cut and close them together or?

Yeah once it stops bleeding just put a couple drops in the cut and push it together and on the top edge but make sure its dry before warping it. Make sure to get some silvedine to put on it also. No joke this stuff is awesome and will make it heal 2x as fast and keep it from getting infected.

Are you diabetic? If you are you need to go to the doctor. Super glue can be used in emergencies but it can irritate the skin, kill cells and cause other side effects, particularly when used on deep wounds. There is a safer alternative is called Dermabond it is antibacterial form of super glue. Make sure wound is clean use saline to cleanse wound. Then close edges use tweezers to pinch edges together. Butter fly wound closed. Then apply dermabond leave butterflies on until dermabond dries. Remove butterflies apply another layer of dermadon over area.

    DAMN that stuff is $$$$
How is Mastisol Medical Liquid Adhesive or Vetbond Adhesive, 3ml? Looks a lot more reasonable.

More chance of infection, bleeding, scarring and much longer heal time.

My bad, I’m so use to having dermabond lying around the house. My mom is head surgical nurse at hospital where she works and brings dermabond home every month. They open sterile box of 12 use a few vials for every surgery or wound that they use it on and then “throw it away”. I have 6 boxes sitting in a tub in my bathroom. When you mentioned prices I checked and they are about $20/ .5ml vial. Vetbond is about $17/ 3ml resalable tub and does same thing.

Stitches help wounds heal more quickly, with less scarring and less chance of an infection. Do you have sterile saline? I would pick out anything that doesn’t belong in wound. Then rinse in thoroughly with sterile saline. Apply silvadene or antiseptic ointment in wound. Close wound approximate edges and then seal.

Depends on how deep is the cut. I am assuming your axe is not sterile surgical blade. So germs and rust would definitely have been implanted deep into the wound. If you had penetrated the joint capsule, thats really really bad news. Even a deep muscular dirty wound is difficult to treat. You'll definitely need to open the dressing and pour antiseptics into it everyday. Strong antibiotics too.

I was chopping down a tree stump and I hit the stump and it slipped and hit my knee. I was hopping around for a bit haha.

Also should I clean it everyday ? And how long might it take. To heal?
